hey there ~
basically starting from about a week ago, my computer's fan has been running like nonstop
maybe stopping for like five minutes only to start again and the CPU usage has stayed at
100% and will not lower no matter what i do and how many programs i close O.O it was fine
before, my computer usually runs at a 5% CPU usage, but i don't know what happened.
does anyone know how i can lower my CPU usage?
cus it's definitely bad for my comp and it freezes, slows, and argh...
please help ^^
thanks in advance <3

Start the task manager Control+Shift+Escape
Processes tab.. sort the stuff by CPU use... then tell us whats using the most CPU so we can figure out whats wrong with it. You can use End task to stop the thing that uses all the CPU but its possible your computer will crash.

if nothing is running and you get that it is possibly a virus. run a full system scan.

the same damn thing happened to me! i was working on hw through the night last week and i finally realized that my fan was going like crazy. I got out of my internet explorer and whatever else i didn't need, thinking that would help. Then I tried to delete some files and my windows explorer would freeze, so i'd have to go to task manager and manually end explorer.exe and restart it. everytime i deleted a file, my windows explorer would freeze, cpu usage shot up to 100% and if it wasn't at 100% and i wasn't touching it, it would flicker between the 60s and 80s. i restored back to a couple days before my explorer went crazy but it didn't do anything. i'm not sure if i actually did a system scan, i had the norton stuff that came with my laptop. i did a little research online and some people said the norton stuff is no good for your computer. i gave up and just decided to restore the whole thing to factory settings since it's still fairly new, not too many documents to move.
i'm still trying to figure out what happened for my explorer to freeze and sap up my cpu usage. i don't do anything on my computer, i take one class online and i write a lot of papers. and i listen to music on wmp. well, i hope i told you guys some useful information. just back up your files and don't forget to make your recovery discs while you can (if you choose to restore like i did)
