i currently attend ucsc and i'm not sure if i will get my choice of on campus housing as an upperclassman (which is an important factor for me since i travel numerous times throughout the year back and forth from korea to the U.S. and i can't be dealing with paying utilities, sketchy landlords, and security issues) i don't want to apply for any of the housing alternatives that my school offers because they're kind of outrageously priced
weeeeeee let's see where we all go >_< !

i think it's going to be really hard because you're already in a UC system despite your gpa.

Aside from grades, I was a part of PTK honors society, did quite a bit of volunteering hours (~2-3 hrs per week) and led many of those events, but no work experience in business (I only worked at the Admissions Office at my school).
A friend of mine had a 3.84, was VP of associated students (later became president), PTK honors society, with no work experience, and she got in.
Another one of my friends got in with a 3.92. He's a totally different class of applicants though since he's 27 and he has been working since he graduated from high school. In those 10 years, he worked for 3 of the Big 4 firms with pretty good positions (director, VP of departments, etc.). Along with all that, he was president of our PTK honors society chapter, all-state academic team, numerous other awards, and a TON of community service. He also started working on his general UC application essays and Haas essay for about 6 months. He didn't know the prompt but just made up his own and wrote a ton of essays.
In regards to other business schools in CA, there was a pretty recent thread on good business schools in CA. It shouldn't be too far back, maybe just a page or two.
