They "fall in love" in a matter of hours while knowing pretty much nothing about each other.

I personally think "love at first sight" is BS. I don't think you can love someone without KNOWING the person. I don't mean knowing their entire life story, but you still need to know the basics, don't you?

besides...juliet was like what 12? or was it 14? either way she was young and was easily influenced and romeo wanted to replace rosaline (like you already said)
i think if u chose infatuation..writing ur essay would be easier

its infatuation.
they barely even know each other.
they don't really know anything about each other.
how can you truely love someone without even knowing them?

You can't possible claim it to be true love in friggen two days ==''
they met each other at first sight.
then makeout - yet they dont know ANYTHING about one another.
next day they killed each other.

because the whole thing takes place in what, 2 days? [as someone said]
they saw each other... and said they were already in love... they barely even knew anything about each other...
for true love... i can think of some arguments:
they were willing to sacrifice anything, just to be together [even their lives]
besides...juliet was like what 12? or was it 14? either way she was young and was easily influenced and romeo wanted to replace rosaline (like you already said)

she was 13.
but umm.. in the old days... this wasnt considered young !!!
only nowadays you have to be like older than 20 to get married for people to judge you right...
Why cry? I'm a stronger girl now because of you. So, why cry?

By the way, I also believe it was an infatuation, for reasons already stated above. I always thought that their decision was rash, and they didn't think about the consequences of their actions.

Edit: Oh yeah, Juliet's father did say that she could've left if she wanted to (by refusing to marry Paris) but she decided not to. How the heck is that true love?

Hmm I guess you can go with true love saying that love isnt always about the length, it can be this mutual connection and feeling?

You can't really use the age argument though, cause it makes sense back then for them to marry at that age. Heck, they even had sex in the play! Also, the day argument is flimsy because there's no proof using the play that you can't fall in love within a few days. After all, another one of Shakespeare's plays says the lover finds beauty in everything, so would Romeo and Juliet be lovers as they find beauty in the world when they "fall in love?" It's better to use the fact that they are fickle in behaviour, (like Hamlet's mother) as they switch back and forth.

like some posters said, they met for 2 hours and BAM they're in love - -'
It's just me, but love doesn't happen in 2 hours.

And they died for each other. If that doesn't convince you, I don't know what will. Although Romeo was in love with Rosalie, the reason why he fell out of it so quickly and in love with Juliet was the whole idea of recognizing your soulmate when you immediately see him/her.
