QUOTE
While covering the night shift at a small-town fire department, an ambitious young television reporter and her cameraman follow the crew on a call to rescue an elderly woman unable to escape the inferno that is consuming her home. Upon their arrival at the scene, the calm midnight air is pierced by the sound of horrific screams, and the television report takes an unexpectedly dark turn.

Managed to catch this film on import and wow, it is wonderful. When you're used to a bunch of Hollywood horror crap, you'll see REC and wish more movies were as intense and terrifying (unless of course it's a Rob Zombie movie which is terrifying in a whole different way!). I don't know if this'll get released in North America, aside from a very very very limited run at certain theaters, but if you get a chance to see it and love the horror genre, go for it.

It's told through a first-person perspective (think Cloverfield, Blair Witch, etc) which might put a few people off; and has plenty of arguments, but the general feel and pace of the movie is perfect for the 75mins or so of runtime.

REC is one of the best horror films I've ever seen.

Co-directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza.
The US remake called Quarantine is out around October 08.
Already out in Spain and the UK, no NA distributor.

I've been hearing about this for months, but I'm still waiting to get ahold of a copy, haha.

They're waiting to show it in America so it'll be closer to its remakes release for some reason (that's right, it's already being remade!). I believe they're showing it at the After Dark Horrorfest thing, where it will probably be surrounded by a bunch of crappy horror films. =/

I'm not sure if the Quarantine (American remake for REC) spots are even up; that must've been something else. I can tell you that 10 secs of REC is far better than the whole movie that is Prom Night.

^ Really? Talk about deja vu.. It looks so similar with the female reporter and the "scary woman" and everything. ohmy.gif
I didn't catch the title because I closed my eyes. LOL
haha Prom Night wasn't scary at all now that I think of it, but there were some parts that popped out during the movie.

Lol I knew it!
haha I thought it was similar. Is that infected woman a "zombie"? Something like in Resident Evil?

I am resuscitating this thread as I have just finished watching this movie last night. [REC], it gave me a few jumps e.g The Attic shot, noises, the girl attacking her own mom and the cop. I have a awesome sound system, so it was freaking terrifying for me. Not to leave out the outstanding ending by the way.

Regardless, the version of [Rec] I watched had subtitles that were obviously not by someone who spoke English as their first language, and probably didn't speak Spanish as their first language either since "(I don't know what they're saying here)" shows up on the screen more than once. The translator also felt it necessary to insert stupid smiley's into the subtitles at random places like "^-^" and "o_O".

I, may even go as far to say that [REC] may be the scariest film I have ever seen myself. But it's not. You should definitely check-out Jacob's Ladder and Noroi.

Jacob's Ladder is fantastic. One of my favorite horror films from the 90's.

If I can find an NTSC version of REC I'll probably import it... I've waited long enough for a US DVD release of The Mother of Tears, and I don't want to wait that long for REC.

I watched the movie a couple of months ago and I really enjoyed it, definitely one of the better horror movies out these days. My friend didn't agree, but then again she's the type that laughs during horror movies -__-

I'm reviving this thread to say that this movie was bada$$. Loved it to death. I mean it reminded me of 28 days later, but it was better. One of the better zombie fest movies. I hated how the remake quarantine or any other american remake tried to explain the movies by adding explanations instead of keeping it ambiguous.

I saw Rec and quarantine, and i think Rec is slightly better. Quarantine was okay, but the unnecessary sexual jokes, i can do without.

In addition they are making REC 2 the sequel. I wonder how that's going to be like.

Yup. I heard about that too. There are two trailers for it on the net. Looks like the real thing. I'm excited.

Couldn't find the REC2 thread; but to those living in (or close to) Toronto and going to TIFF this year, REC2 will be playing at Midnight Madness.

I finally saw this a month ago and I can definitely say it was better than the remake. I wonder if the sequel will be as scary

I love love love rec and I can say that it's the best zombie movie I've seen in a long time.
I'm looking forward to the sequel, it seems like equally good as the first one. <3
