Filipinos use this thing called "Magic Mic"
Don't know about others and about one for the PC.
What you can do is go to youtube. They usually have karaoke versions of songs on there. I know I've found a few for Asian songs.

My mum and sis each have a magic mic and an extra wireless mic addon thingy. Haha, I gotta agree on the cheesy backgrounds, though I'm pretty sure we can use our own backgrounds

But MAGIC MIC. Was the first thing that popped up in my head when i saw the Karaoke System topic. XD
Use it all the time. Very very portable.
I have to agree Cheesey backgrounds. but these things actually grade you on how well you sing.
Depending on what mode you put it in.
I never knew I was singing on Star Singer mode. XD there is even Professional , and amateur.
I do not thing that was helpful at all. ^^ Sorry.
