I can't tell if it's flaking or not, maybe it's just too late at night ...morning 4AM. :s If it's flaking and cracking some then it's clear coat failure.

It's pretty much smooth for the most part. It's not as smooth as other places on the car, but it doesn't feel like it's cracked or flaky. And it's not flaking either or cracked. It just looks like the paint is faded away.

shouldnt be too hard to fix.

wet sand with some 600grit just enough to flatten and smooth it out, but not enough to eat through the color, then re-clear it, you could diy in a day or two.

Thanks, but that's only for if it's an oxidation problem isn't it? Some people say it's clearcoat failure, others say oxidation, so I'm just trying to clear it up.

Oh, whoops. Read it wrong. So this would mean getting some sort of clear coat (from home depot)? I get the sanding part down, but I'm not too sure about the part where I reapply clearcoat or paint.

yea you will need to get the trunk re sprayed with clear coat, most junior colleges will offer some sort of paint class where they will teach you how to do it, which is what i'm doing, i painted my entire car using the skills i learned from the classes, right now i'm fixing the mistakes i made(due to lack of experience).
