Sooo, I've been wanting an SLR for a while now ..
But a] I don't have the money, and b] I recently got a new digital camera, a small one..
BUT I made a deal with my mom/dad, and they MIGHT get me one within this/next year? :]
Sooo I was wondering what kind of SLR you guys like/prefer/wish you had?
I really like the Canon Rebel XSi & XTi :] They look nice.
Mm, price range is not a huge deal, preferably under or at $1000,
but I already warned my mom it was expensive soo phew.gif
Haahaha, yeah so your comments/opinions/reasons would be tons of help!
Thanks in advanced!

** OH whoops.. I didn't know there was a subforum for this topic, so if someone would move this for me, that would be great biggrin.gif

shop! :D

it's not about the camera outfit.
it's all about what kind of lens you get.
so i think you should do some research on what kind of lens you want, because it depends onwhat type of photography you plan on doing.

i got a nikon d70 with 70-300m and 28-80mm lens.
saving up for a zeiss dist....
or i would prefer a hasselblad 503...

unfortunately they're both expensive as hell (hasselblad more expensivethan most lenses) and i'm poor as hell!

life is cruel.

i got five on it.

I'd say get the Canon XSi, but the XTi is almost exactly the same except without the live view and 3" screen (there are other differences as well, but the previous two are what are important to me smile.gif) so if you want to save money and get a better lens, then get the XTi. If I were you, I'd get the XSi and the kit lens (EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS) which should be around $1000, then save up for a better lens. It would be of no benefit to you if you spent a lot of money on a good lens that you didn't like.

not if that first lens is a 24-105/4 L or a 24-70/2.8 L tongue.gif
anyways...
the XSi also has spot metering, which i found comes in handy in those sometimes tricky lighting situations
i say if you want more bang for your buck, get the XTi and a decent lens or a set of 'starter' lenses [18-55, 50/1.8, 70-300]
that should cover most of your needs in terms of focal length and DoF control until you decide you're good enough to buy some better lenses

i'm planning to get a Nikon d40...I know i know..
it's not the best dslr there is but I have to admit...I am just learning photography..
I really dont like the idea of buying a higher model because I'm not yet ready for one...or I might just end up breaking it...
nikon d40 is affordable and is like a student camera...i need the camera for my course that's why..

anyway, im not saying it's bad to buy higher models...ur lucky ur parents are okay with buying you something less than a $1000...
but i suggest that you look on features and the warranty...^^
