I was looking up stats and descriptions (since I'm looking for a phone with wifi so I don't have to pay that extra monthly bill for internet usage) and I was wondering what phone are out there? Also, does "wireless web browsing" mean wifi? Or the one you have to pay?

Search for something that does say wifi. I think the ones with the higher chance are the smart phones. But even those seem to need a data plan and rarely include wifi I want a phone with wifi (besides the iphone)

Nokia E51 is the most recommended WiFi-capable phone in HowardForums
Nokia E65 is still capable even though i think its older
iPhone has WiFi as well
HTC Touch has WiFi too.

but so many people recommend the Nokia E51 for a decent WiFi capable phone.

edit: but i still think full internet on a 240x320 screen is quite possibly one of the biggest gimmicks in human history.

lots of phones have wifi nowadays.. but i wouldn't bother with a screen size less than 2.4 inches though. theres the softbank x02ht, n95, n82, sonyericsson p1, etc.

Yeah the N95 does. The WIFI's pretty darn good too, I have to add.
The newer Sony ericsson phones have wifi too these days.

if i have a wifi capable phone, and get a wifi plan on my current cell phone plan, am i able to hook up my laptop to my cell phone (through wires or bluetooth) and essentially get internet anywhere i go?

I know for sure that the HTC Shadow from Tmobile has wifi.
I see my sister use it to watch videos on youtube with v-tap.

I think N80 (not sure about the model but its the Nokia N series line.. aside from N95) has it too.
My friend's friend has it and I saw her phone has wifi capability. I want wifi too. >o<

Wifi is a short distance way of networking. Your laptop probably has wifi so you can go online at the UCI library.

The source of internet does not matter for wifi... its basically a substitute for wires so you can use it with DSL, school internet, cable etc..

If your phone has wifi... you can go online with it without using your phone's data plan.
If your phone has a dataplan you can use bluetooth or a wire to connect your laptop to your phone if it supports tethering to go online... but the amount of data might be limited... like you have a maximum of ___mb or you pay by the kb

I have a Sony Ericsson w580i and I have their PC Suite downloaded onto my computer and you can use the internet feature on that. It's actually quite fast for an internet connection. However sometimes you have trouble with the connection. I was not long ago out of town and used it and was able to stay connected for a good hour. I'm not sure if it's on your bill or what but it's great to have.
