Have you ever noticed that non-asians always seem to think that most asians are Chinese? It happens all the time where I live. People refer to practically all Asians (except a Korean kid in my class) as like "That Chinese guy/girl", even if they're not actually Chinese.

How can they not see the difference between Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese etc.... ???? I know that they are all similar, but there are also major differences! It just bugs the crap out of me!

Anyone else have similar thoughts?.................

Honestly, I used to get annoyed. But now I don't care, and I just correct them.

Why should people get angry or annoyed because of this? A lot of asians assume that every hispanic person is mexican too. Its just all hyprocritical to me. Besides, even if you did tell them that you werent chinese, I doubt they would give a crap.

And you really didnt need to start a new topic, there are plently of other topics about the same thing.

Guessing race/ethnicity is not that easy, both asian or non-asian.
Can you even differentiate between Mexican and Spanish people just by looking at their appearances? Or Dutch, Scottish, British, and American people?

well chinese ppl were the first asian immigrant to come to north america so.. generation after generation their presence is well established thats why nonasian think every asian is chinese

well most all of the asian races came out of china or have chinese blood so it doesnt bothe rme

the great silk road transported people of chinese blood extraction all the way across south east aia and into europe

also -- a lot of people in china ran away from china because of the tough times sduring that period so everyone in Asia is "Chinse" osomehow.

have you ever notice how you can't tell apart europeans and mexican? Asian can't even tell the difference between russion and jewish and you want people to know the exact race to you. People think that people who can speak spanish are mexican but spanish and mexican are different they just speak the same language. Who cares, just kindly tell them your not chinese theirs no need making a big fuss over it

because Japanese are consider more superior in the 21 century and they have alot of pride with their animation along with the stereotype saying japanese people are very beautiful people so asians take it as a compliment when people think their japanese

It's not that annoying to me. But i have a friend that used to think that all asians are the same.. they speak the same language and stuff. i was like O_o WAT?!

To be honest, Americans are quite ignorant of the countries in Asia. Actually their very ignorant of geography in general. Some honestly don't even know about Korea and if they by chance they do, they believe its somewhere within China because somehow they do know that China is pretty big. lol

The Chinese just has a lot more exposure to the west. Not only were the Chinese the first asians to come to America but their history is also discussed quite extensively in the school curriculum. Their movies and their actors are commonly seen and have been seen since the 40s. Theres also a pretty big population of chinese americans so the chances of bumping into a chinese rather than any other asian is greater. The Japaneses culture is relegated to the game/anime/geek crowds therefore they usually come up second in peoples minds.

Where I live, Chinese is the minority. Korean is the majority. I've never really encountered that problem because of this.

lol YES. i hate it when ignorant kids go up to me and my friends and pretend to be chinese. funny thing was, that 2/3 of us weren't even chinese. we just wanted to smack them >_>
