I already have two 512mb memory sticks in my laptop and I was thinking about buying a 2gb memory stick to replace one of the 512mb sticks. Is the imbalance not going to be good for the computer?

this is the ram i'm planning to buy.
as you can see, this stick is a 200-PIN SODIMM / DDR2 PC-5300
I'm not sure about what rating my current 512mb stick has in terms of PC-5300 or PC-4200... etc.
thank for your input.

It will be okay... shouldn't cause you any problems. As for performance... I have a 1gb stick and 2gb stick im not sure if 2x 2gb will balance things better for like dual channel but I do not think it will be an issue much less a significant speed difference.

what kinda laptop you got? it should be okay...although maybe 2x1GB SODIMMS may be better for dualchannel? you probably wont notice a difference anyway

Well, it wouldn't cause too much problems..But the thing is..when your running programs it shares the ram..and may cause it to imbalance a bit. But I'd suggest to get 2 x 1g ram sticks. Or 2 x 2g...whatever
