Ever Had Mono? Advice?

Alright. So I'm a Junior, and for all the other Junior's out there, you know the next two weeks are AP weeks. And just my luck, after a blood test, my doctor called me and informed me I was the proud carrier of the EBV virus, aka Mono. ^^'
Soo, he told me it was rather common with high school students, and no, its not just contracted by kissing, etc, but rather just hanging around someone who has it. Therefore he says I probably picked it up from school. He says I can still test (I have 5 of them), but he wishes me luck and says I'll probably be like asdfghjkl; in pain, etc.
So I was wondering, if any of you have had it, and have any suggestions to getting through it. All I know is right now, it hurts so much to swallow, and my ears hurt, and I can't sleep. I get a fever that ranges from 100 to 102.4 in the morning, but as soon as I take some motrin or advil, it goes down, but I still get cold sweats. All my doctor says is to take advil. So maybe some advice from some of you guys that have had it? Or if you know anyone that has, and how they got through it?
Maybe I'm being wimpy, and it really isn't suppose to be this much of a burden. XD Idk. I'm too scared to ask around at school, so a little help?
Is there anything that really worked for you? It's hard for me to sleep, and I've tried thermaflu, and advil PM.
Edit:
Alright. So I read up a lot on Mono when my doctor told me I had it. And a couple of you were asking, so this is what I know. [:
It's full name is mononucleosis, and its commonly called "the Kissing Disease" and its the EBV virus that pretty much takes over your system, and causes an increases in white blood cells, or lymphocytes, and because of that, the lymph nodes in your neck, and your spleen begin to swell with the dead ones. Yay.
A lot of people have the EBV virus, but it doesn't effect many people, and its like the chicken pox, once you get it, you can't get it again.
Doctor's diagnose it through two different tests. First, they look at the white blood cell count, but this doesn't always lead to mono, and second, they check the blood for EBV antibodies, which directly leads to mono. All you can do to cure it is sleep and make sure you get plenty of rest for 4-6 weeks.
Common symptoms include: Hard to swallow, high fever, headaches, fatigue, mental fatigue, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes.
If you want more information, I typed mono in google and there were a lot of links. [:
[I hope I can post this here? If I'm breaking any rules, let me know. Thanks! ^^,]

Mono takes FOREVER to go away. Drink plenty of water and try to get as much rest as you can! I know getting enough rest would be tough because you probably would be spending some time taking your finals but try to stay away from caffeine since that won't help any. Eat healthy foods by the way!

yea i've had mono b4 but yea the kissing disease for me wasnt that bad for me.
i puked a lot though.
so i ate very lightly n sleep whenever you can. n the mono takes forever to heal! the doctor told me that it takes like 6 months for it to completely leave ur system!
i got tired easily.
but it wasnt hard 4 me to swallow or anything.
n also the doctor told me to stop doing any sports. cuz apparently during the time that u have mono n if u exercise a lot of run it might rupture ur liver(or is it spleen?) so yea hope this helps if u have any ?S PM me!

oh i had mono my junior year too [it sucked so bad ]: ]
my advice is skip school whenever you can and just stay at home to study and rest up. it took me four months to fully recover from mono...basically i was just really really tired tho and my spleen was enlarged so i was unable to do any movement other than walking.
drink lots of water, rest up, and it will go away eventually GOOD LUCK [:

Ack, I totally feel for you.
I *just* got over my mono a month or two ago. I luckily had a milder version - where I wasn't completely drained of energry; just a little more tired than usual. It DID cause me to not be able to swim my last high school swim season :/ which makes me pretty frustrated.
I got through it without medicine. Yeah, I know, crazy, right? >_> A few weeks of waking up with THE worst sore throat & not being able to eat much, or even breathe properly. It's basically recommended that you get lots of fluids and LOTS of rest; there's no complete cure for it [which you probably already figured]. Just remember, the night before your AP exam, get lots of rest - keep your energy levels reserved for the test. Don't do any strenuous activities, because that'll drain you. And about 1/2 hour before your exam, take Theraflu or something. It really does help your symptoms go away temporarily.
on a side note ...
Good luck on your APs! ♥

OHHHH. So this is Mono? I never really recognized what kind of condition it was called. Is the ear hurting kind of like an explosion? I went through something like this, it hurts to swallow like your throat is really sensitive and your ears are going to pop or they do pop each time you swallow? I went through that, I just took the pain as well as I could and not let anyone else see my pain. That's weird though, I had a blood test currently and all the doctor reported was high sodiums, maybe I don't have mono, although the symptoms are very similar...

People in my school who got it had to spend nearly a month at home. That really sucks. Rest well and drink lots of fluids. I hope you get well soon and good luck on your test!

Man, you think mono is bad, imagine what stereo must feel like. Same symptoms, only the pain is amplified.
