I have to find a Japanese song from the 90's for something and I was hoping some of you guys had suggestions. I don't mind the genre as long as it's upbeat and fun.
Just wondering, what was most of the music like back then? I've been looking stuff up and it seems like J-Rock was pretty popular.

So uh...yeah. If anyone's got ideas, please tell <3

I only know a few

Jrock :

Luna Sea songs
X-Japan
Dir en Grey
Malice Mizer - Ma Cherie, Illuminati, Au Revior (these are my faves XD)
Spitz - Kimi ga Omoide ni Naru Mae ni, Nagisa

Others:
Pizzicato Five - Sweet Soul Revue *I recommend XD
SMAP songs

Utada Hikaru & Ayumi Hamasaki debuted late (90's...around 1998 I think). Namie Amuro debuted 1995, so you can check her songs from then.
Im not familiar with all of them, but I've given song titles to the ones I really like. Hope that helps smile.gif

Anything produced by Tetsuya Komuro back then is a good choice. It's mainly because of him that dance and Eurobeat infiltrated the market. And anyone he produced was popular.
The main artists in that category there are: Namie Amuro, Tomomi Kahara, hitomi, Ami Suzuki, globe, TRF.

And Namie debuted solo in 1995, but she was with her group "The Super Monkeys" since 1992. A lot of their stuff before "TRY ME ~watashi o shinjite~" is pure pop, the stuff usually found in the 80s to early 90s.

SPEED, a 4 member girl group, was huge. A lot of their stuff is GREAT. Their most popular songs (White Love, my graduation) are more like upbeat power ballads, but "Go! Go! Heaven" is one of my favorites.

Morning Musume debuted in 1998 and my favorite stuff of theirs was put out in the 90s. But it wasn't until 2000 when their big single, the extremely upbeat pure pop "LOVE Machine" came out.

Again with the later 90s, Ayumi Hamasaki debuted in 1998. My favorite album of hers came out December 1999, but it still carries great pop songs like "Boys&Girls" and "Trauma".

aside from those mentioned above,
i like KinKi Kids...
i've always though that their earlier singles are better than now...
i think they debuted around 97?
Glass no Shounen etc...
and i'd also recommend V6...
chage and aska (a lot of dorama OSTs done by them...)
=)
