Heres the rundown, I'm trying to extract the video from the video camera, not sure if I'm doing it right but this error keeps appearing. The thing is connected and etc not sure why its happening sad.gif.

Also my friend gave me a cable which was a fire wire cable, however i noticed there was also a usb thing so i tried transferring it over usb however it keeps saying insert disk =/ (is it not meant to be transfer by usb or something?)

thanks!

More than likely the firewire cable's required for transferring video. The usb cable's purpose is usually for viewing/transfering still photos only. So unless there's some special setting in the software that came with the camcorder, you'll need to plug that firewire in to get your videos.

When you plug the firewire cable in, does your computer automatically detect that your DV cam's plugged in? If not, get that working first. Perhaps you're missing a driver for your firewire port.

What program are you trying to use to import your video with? Is it Windows Movie Maker or the software supplied with your camcorder? Try Windows Movie Maker or an alternate program and see if that makes any difference. Also what model is your camcorder?

Try the program that came with your camcorder instead of WMM. I think it's called DVDfunSTUDIO. You may wanna try it out with both firewire and the USB and see which cable it'll work with. If you use the USB, plug it directly into a USB port. Don't go thru a USB hub.
