I'm seriously having a dilemma here.

Anyone out there English majors for either of these schools? How is it? Are there any other UCs you guys would recommend?

i think definitely berkeley. A LOT of famous writers went there and now teach there, like Maxine Hong Kingston and Joan Didion!

Both are good. I was wondering about the English dept at Cal. I know that for GRADUATE study its #1, but not sure for undergrad. But hey, all of the programs (except I think, art) are top tier.

It's also interesting to note that if you're thinking about grad school afterwards, I heard that its much harder to get into cal grad. if you had attended cal undergrad.

i'm english major at Cal, and I think it's pretty good. i don't know the undergrad english ranking, but you get to interact with a lot of those brilliant english grad students. of course, not ALL the professors are great. still, when you find a good professor, they're amazing. i'm guessing the prof:student ratio is going to be about the same on both campuses, and your GSI (grad student instructor) takes care of most of the grading anyway... so go where the grad students are better, i guess? : )

okay, so i'm a bit biased.
