My College Plan Critique Please

dream of teaching English in Korea a reality, would be a good idea. I need a B.A to teach in Korea & I deff plan on doing it
starting in the Fall. So here's my plan.
1. Community College - I don't necessarily love the idea of going to community college (I went once for 1 semester
2 years ago, and hated it). But I didn't really know what I wanted back then and had no goals, now being older (yes I know
only 2 years LOL) I realize that community college isn't all bad. I can go to college for cheaper & transfer in a year or 2.
I plan on studying my little AZZ off and getting all A's and B's
2. State College - After 1 or 2 years transfer to UMASS - Amhearst (I hope 1, but IDK how good the transfer rate is
after only 1 year in a CC -- I want to major in English ... so with only 2 years at a state college is this O.k? I also want to take
Korean lessons at the nearby Smith College (I'm studying Korea now too, so I hope to take the TOPIK during College & get in
at the intermediate level).
3. (Option) Study Abroad? ... If I get into State College after 1 year I really want to go study in Korea my Junior year
of college -- that's why I'm studying Korean so hard.
4. Graduate - Go teach English in Seoul/Pusan Korea ^^ !!
------
I'm so glad that I'm realizing this now and not 10 years down the line when I'm stuck in a dead-end job. COLLEGE ^.^!
Oh and yes, I know. I did terrible in H.S (that's why I have to go to CC 1st) ... but I will really try hard. I did maintain an A average
in English in H.S .... just my math/science sucked =/
I know it'll be hard -- but If it gets me to Korea I'll do ANYTHING.

^ why not?
it's not about the profession, it's about the passion.
trust me, passion will get you further.
that's good that you have a plan.
planning is different from actually doing it.
so, you gotta do it and then we'll see where you'll be.
if you have this much drive,
im sure you'll reach it eventually.
work hard!
GOOD LUCK!
take care.

she only specified she wants to teach english after graduation. i know short term goals are important, but long term is just as important. depending on what she would like to do in her 30's, 40's, etc... it might be worthwhile to learn other certain skills now and get a background in them while she tries to accomplish her short term goals.
btw... i bet you can feasibly get an online degree much faster. if the degree is the only important thing in your goal... look into those alternatives.

Well .. Yes, that's the plan. Lol. I've thought about it a lot, and this is really what I want.
This is why I try so hard studying Korean --- && if worse came to worse there's tons of TESL jobs
in the states. But I deff. plan on staying in Korea.
My plan is that I'll marry a Korean guy so ... life in Korea would be a sure thing, unless we both decided to move to the states.
Good Luck
Thank You =) You graduated in 3 years? How did you do it? I'd love to graduate in 3 years ^^!

i don't know... if i was a parent, i wouldn't be thrilled with the idea that you want to teach english in korea so you could marry a korean guy. but that's just me... the idea just doesn't seem very reliable/dependable for your best interest...

That does not sound like a solid plan at all. Why is it that you must go to Korea only? If it's because you want to marry a Korean guy, then that is the wrong reason to go! You should really think about what you want to do for yourself, with or without a guy! If you like to teach, get a tutoring job right now, or volunteer at local schools. If you plan to go back to college, you also need to consider what type of major you want to pursue.

I don't want to go to Korea to marry a Korean guy, LOL. I want to go to teach, but if I move to Korea, yes of course I'd marry a Korean guy. I only date Asian guys, so it'd be inevitable that I'd marry a Korean guy.

1. Yes, you go to college because you have a plan, no one would go to college if they didn't have to.
2. No, like I said the reason for me going to Korea is not to marry a Korean guy only, I like Korean culture, I want to move to Korea. What's the big deal? People from other countries move to the States all the time.
3. I stated what major I was going into. English. & yes, I've wanted to be an English major since around middle school age.

if i told anyone that, they would think that i am moving to korea first for marriage, and 2nd for career. apologies for any misunderstanding, but i couldn't help but think your main goal was to marry a korean guy.

your plan sounds good to me, but knowing the amount of credits needed to graduate state/community colleges (im comparing this to ny sc's and cc's) are you sure youd get that bfa in 3-4 years? youd probably need 4 years at LEAST...and it doesnt hurt to save money and just stay at a cc, a degree is a degree either way :]
studying abroad is a good idea, get to know the culture before you permanently settle yourself there and find out you dont like it o_O
good luck!!

If you haven't, I suggest you get some experience before such a drastic change in lifestyle!
I used to want to be a teacher, but I started tutoring and
I realized I get SO frustrated when people don't understand me~!!
Of course, I'm just one example, but better safe than sorry right? :]
Also, it's really good to travel there or study abroad BEFORE you live there.
It's a lot different to go to somewhere for a little while than to go there for the rest of your life~
Before you transfer to the state college, you should also check out other colleges as well.
I was surprised to learn that there are some colleges offer specific degrees for teaching English as a Second Language / Abroad
So if you can find a college that offers that, it might suit you better.
But DEFINITELY try to get some experience before you make such a big decision.
If you can find some kid who needs English tutoring right now, try it!
It will give you a lot of insight about what you'll be doing for your job.
By the way, this is off topic but your anniversary is the same anniversary as me and my boyfriend, just not the same year~ :]

in my opinion you really want to rethink your career path. for the longest time i thought i wanted to be a highschool math teacher. reality hit me hard. realizing that teaching english is not what you expected it to be, in another country, can be a costly mistake. passion is one thing and practicality is another. i've seen the ads of the english tutors going abroad... the pay is very very low, not sustaining imo. but good luck.

I've had a huge passion for art for awhile, and I knew I had to think practically. What are the chances of me hitting big with one piece of work. Chances are pretty da/mn slim. Why aim for so low then? Go higher, go become a professor or something. Develop some solid ground before making any drastic decisions. My 2 cents.

People will say follow your passion, follow your dream regardless of what it is. But if you look at them they are not your family. your family will be the ones that will sweat, tear, and bleed with you, while those people that are online, or even your friends, are caught up in their own lives to worry about you as much. Therefore, it is really easy to give advice to people that aren't going to live with you. They just say something that is whimsical. They aren't responsible for your life.
If this is your passion, I guess you should do it, but heed your parents advice carefully. After all, they most likely just want the best. My dream was to go to Korea, too! It still as, actually, but I was scared of how I was going to survive. I don't think I listened to my parents, and still don't. In the end it's your life, eh? You can listen to people that think money will lead to sustenance, but honestly, that is foolish. It leads to physical sustenance. Those that do not follow their dream are scared of something, may it be making it out in the real world, or of others. Best of luck!

yea, that's a great point. some of my buddies right now always complain and yell at me because i don't hang with them anymore. because instead i started learning about the stock market and how to build financial portfolios, and freelancing in my spare time to get some extra cash to buy more assets. they're my friends, and i know they wanna chill and have fun. but they're not going to pay for my home, or buy me a car, or support my wife and kids after i get married. i still chill with them once in a while, but i don't let friends tell me how to live unless they bring up some real good points that i've overlooked.
when i think about it that way, i'm starting to sound like my parents. haha
