Basically what the topic title says. Can anyone recommend me a digital camera with high megapixels yet still takes good quality videos? I need this for university - the quality of the videos for me is ranked as a higher necessity than the one of the still pictures because I already have a DSLR. I know I should get get a handycam, but I would like something small and convenient to carry around when I'm with my friends doing silly things as well, so I might as well get both. The only ones I've heard of is Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5, and another from Sony (DSC-M1 one, but that's very old, so I'm assuming there are better ones out there).

And my mom is pestering me to get one before I go to Israel this week, so please let me know soon!
Oh, and I've googled, but only found reviews for the Sony one.

I have a Canon SD750. It takes pretty good videos, but it's really up to you to see if you like the quality or not.

How about a Sanyo Xacti? They're not really digital cameras but they seem pretty small and portable.

I'll recommend the Sanyo 2 in 1 VPC-CG9 which is very protable.
Their video and pictures quality will never be a joke. Sanyo made a lot of improvement from the previous model.

If you want good quality cameras - Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Pentax, and Fuji are usually pretty safe choices.
Same with Sony.

Like the pervious few had said, the Canon SD750 is great.
The LCD is great but leaves little room on the small back. The buttons are quite small.
This has 7.1 megapixels. The flash is located where your fingers would usually rest. Not a good place.
Only 3x zoom.

The Nikon COOLPIX series are great too.

The s600 has 10 megapixels. [This is considered one of the highest...unless you want to spend $30k for a 39MP]
The s600 is the most expensive of the series but has the fastest start-up time.
It's shutter lag is a slow compared to the older models at .15 seconds. [.25 is considered pretty high-end but compared
to Canon and Fiji, etc. and the older models, not so much.]
The quality is great, the coloring and pixels are a great improvement. The ISO [camera sensitivity] prevents the noise
but don't go above 800 although it can go up to 3200.
Can reduce vibration. A bit more cheaper. Lots of modes to shoot in. Some buttons are hard to push.
s500 has 7.1mp and does well. s200 is great but no image stabilization. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W100 pretty much looks the same
and is like the s500. It's also cheaper.

i was surprised at how large the resolution was and also the quality of the video.
