college is WAY, EXPONENTIALLY better than high school. i hated every moment of high school, i was never unhappier. in college i do have unhappy days but ...you definitely feel liberated and content most of the time (in comparison).
college can be clique-ish (people who just never grew up..haha) but if you run into those types and feel uncomfortable then it's probably in your best interest to find some better QUALITY friends.
i had a hard time making close connections with others just because I have somewhat of an unusual personality and can find it hard to click....but i did end up making at least a handful of good friends
if i can do it you can do it smile.gif

In college, you can "click" with most people unlike high school where there is a fine line between a prep and a jock.

Freedom... you can't ask for more.

It is harder to befriend people in college because you are totally in a brand new environment, however, it's easier to strike up conversations with people because they are of your intellectual level.

Also, college filters out a lot of people, mostly the ones I don't really like, which makes makes the learning environment more pleasant.

Haha, college is better and worse than HS. I actually kind of miss the cliques in HS. It was so close and tight. It's hard to acheive that same sort of closeness in college. Haha, I usually don't hang out with people from my school actually. You have alot more freedom though.
honestly... you're not half as special as you think you are.

college is so much better than high school. you get to choose ur own classes and times which is great because this means that u can have classes that are only on tuesday and thursday only or whatever but it's totally better. however, i find that it's harder to make friends just because everyone is busy doing their own thing and it's hard to just hang out when u're attending a community college. it makes me miss the high school friend hangouts but other than that, college is better

I love college! I love it because you can choose your own hours for classes and come and go as you please and you don't get in trouble if you skip. Of course each college has their own rules for that so check with your college rules before you do. smile.gif My school is small but a lot of people go there so it's not like I thought either with cliques and the like. People are very nice and it's easy to make friends. My college has clubs that you can choose to join and different interest's. I would check them out if you think you'd have the time. Most people aren't about cliques but are about their education. Of course I'm not sure if it's different if you live on campus. If you live on campus though there are plenty of people on Soompi who can tell you their experiences. I've read people become good friends with their room mates and other people don't like their's. I wouldn't worry though. College is a great experience. Just keep up with your studies however and don't get behind!

I go to a community college and the classes are smaller too! Only two/three times did I have a big class and that was with American government and US History I and II. Other wise the classes are pretty small. My criminology class the regular people who were there all the time it was like ten or so people. My sociology class was the same way as well so I really like that. I got to know my professor's as well but of course I had my American government professor before for World Politics and my criminology and sociology professor was the same person and he does the other sociology and criminal justice classes. I saw my world religions professor from last term once at the end of this last term and he stopped and had a little chat with me. You also have a better chance at seeing people again in other classes too at smaller colleges.

yeah i think college is better than high school. in high school everyone has their own little groups and we all stick to the norm. it's nothing like that in college -- we make friends based on interests and personalities, not by how we look.

High school education seemed like a joke, which i miss, i remember 15% final was like OMG WTF...now my finals are like 65-70%% of my grade...so theres a shitload of more studying...which I don't like, but at the same time i felt like i learn tons more than I did in hs. Competition is a lot more intense in college when it comes to the curve too. As for friends, you definitely meet a lot more people in dorms/suite which can last for a lifetime. But then again, I miss my friends that I grew up with back at home, we are all in different areas in California which kinda sucks. Homesick can be a problem for firstyears too, but shouldn't be too bad. I would say you can't really say one is better than the other because they both have their negs and pos.

In terms of freedom and people, for the most part, yes.

In terms of academics and studying, NO.

I think college is way better than high school; however, I don't think must of college itself either. The plus of college is that you can get up and leave to go to the bathroom whenever you want. You also have a more variety of classes to choose from. I think for me that's about it. The down side is that some professors still take attendance. They hate the idea of students not going to class yet still do well in class, so they try to get you on attendance by having an attendance policy that might account for like 10% of your grade. You'll run into good professors, some that might blow you away. On the other hand, there are also bad professors. I actually have 3 of them this semester, who try to put you down, they don't try to understand you, and they have that attendance policy because they want the respect (which IMO they don't deserve, at least some of them). There is also a crap load of work. I recommend trying to take all your breadth requirements as soon as you get into college, instead of wait until sophomore year like I did. I'm a junior going into my senior year and I think I'm almost done with my breadth req.

Whether you can find friends easily or not, it depends on whether you commute like I do or live on campus. It also depends on how far you live from campus if you commute.

i haaaate college with a passion, yea, you get a TON more freedom, meet a TON more people, but with the work im getting, my social like is basically non-existent anyways. i miss highschool so much tears.gif not as much freedom, but everyone was so much closer

The social life, maturity and the freedom, I lvoe it more in college. I guess it may of been because of the high school i went to but there seemed to be alot of high school drama. imo those things are a waste of time and i rather not sit through them during high school. I hated the whole social hierarchy thing. I didn't see a point in having or believing in those things because once you leave those doors, your just no one..and no one gives a mini cooper who you were in high school.

I'm a freshman in college, and I'd say I enjoyed my highschool experience, but it can't even being to compare to how much fun I'm having in college. The independence and freedom to be yourself and pick your classes and activities and how to manage your time is just marvelous.

It depends on what you prefer and what kind of college you go to. I go to a very small Liberal Arts university and it almost has the same dynamics as a high school minus the huge crowds, 45-minute periods, end-of-class bells, and the same classes everyday.
But yeah, schedules? GAWD. <D I get to choose how long I get to sleep in the morning! ...Which doesn't really matter since I go to sleep at 2 or 3 in the morning, anyway, and I'll have a 10:30 class the next day.....Haha, but once you get down time-management, you're homefree. Just beware the occasional bout of homesickness if you attend an out-of-state or out-of-city school.
In terms of maturity level, I dunno. Some people I've met in university were way more immature than the people I knew in high school. Maybe it's just me. xP I've definitely heard way more sexual references in college than in high school. Then again, a lot of them came from this one guy who is a complete idiot....
