Hum I don't think it's true. The thing is that now so many students study liberal arts because they do not necessarily know what else to do/ or they have a small interest in the subject. Must of them will have hard time finding a job afterwards, but I am sure that the best (usually those with the most intrinsic motivation for the subject) will get good jobs. There is teaching, but also some may work for newspaper, museum, even for the government... jobs are llimited and this include teaching...so only the best one will get them.
But thats my opinion. However, if you think you can be among the best in your area, you should not worry! ^^

if you really have the determination, college may just be the starting point to get to where you want. i mean that even if you graduate with a liberal arts degree there are many ways of achieving what you want post-college. you can take post baccalaureate classes for a variety of professions. you can look into law school and the many types of grad schools. if you feel that you are not qualified for jobs with your major, get experience. i feel that experience is overlooked. it is so important to get experience in the field you want to go into, so that you can have stuff to talk about during interviews. start early. freshmen year is not early, so start now whatever position you might be in.
of course, it will be really tough to get that first job that is unrelated to your major, but if you read books and know a lot about it through your own research --coupled with good grades--you can go far

i'm a liberal studies major, but only because i know 100% i want to become a teacher. hmm, why did you declare your major as liberal studies? it IS mostly for education majors, but i guess if you have a concentration such as english or history, you can always gear your graduate studies towards a single subject. what do you want to do, or what are you interested in? maybe i can help out if i know more about what you want to do in college
