Sit-ups Why is it sooooo hard?

I don't know why but it's really, really, super duper hard for me to do sit-ups. Even if we use our arms to sit all the way up, I'm the only person having trouble. Now that shows how weak my lower abdominal muscles are.
Sit-ups are hard for me whereas crunches aren't. I can do crunches for six or seven minutes but I can't sit all the way up.
Also, my back arches whenever I do sit-ups, making my upper back hit or slam the floor... I try to push the small of my back to the floor, but that's just how my back is and I try to "roll down", from lower back to upper back.
Anyone have any tips? Or does anyone share my pain?
//edit
If it helps, I have mild scoliosis in my lower back and my upper back is huge.

Situps are a real hard exercise to get your form right. Luckily, you don't need to do them at all! I watched a medical report recently that said it was alot more effective to do slow crunches with good form, than to do high reps of situps.

The thing is, I'm trying to get past the amount needed at my age for the sit-ups presidential fitness test. XP
(Yeah. My school STILL does that. XP)
Thanks for that info, though!

Well crunches are better than sit-ups in terms of developing your abdominals. Sit-ups can also be bad for your lower back.
But, I understand how you have to pass those fitness exams. My gosh I hated those, they were ridiculously easy, yet people complained about doing a simple push-up or sit-up.

The closer your feet are to your butt, the harder and more stressful it will get. Maybe you should try extending your legs some more.

Really!? Thanks!
I'm able to do sit-ups when I'm conditioned... But I haven't done hardcore crunches ever since January or before that.

i can't do a full sit up unless someone is sitting on my feet, if i try to do it on my own then i get tailbone pain...
Alice asked the Cheshire Cat `Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?'
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where--" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat.

squats, deadlifts, cleans, and sprints >>> toned core. you don't need a lot of weight. even @ 40lbs or no weight you'll benefit more than just doing those "ab exercises"
your lower back and abs are too weak, thus you cant do correct situps
