I'm pretty sure I failed my Bio CST
My biology teacher told us if we did not meet proficient, we are not allowed to move up to Biology AP.
And I really, really want to get into that class.
What should I do?
I'm thinking about repeating that course over the summer at IVC so I can get into Bio AP.
But I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do that?
Help? sad.gif

Don't worry, it's probably not the end of the world if you don't get into AP Biology. But I must say that the CST Biology section was pretty easy from what I remembered...so if you failed it, then it might not be a good idea to go to AP Biology in the first place. I mean, there must be a reason the rule is in place.

AP Biology, having taken it myself, is quite a bit of work. I actually took the course by myself online, which was ridiculously challenging; it requires a lot of reading, but it's certainly NOT the hardest AP - I actually think it's the easiest AP science course, having taken AP Chem & AP Physics as well.

Repeating the course at a community college (? is that what IVC is?) might be a very good idea. Talk to your counselor and your teacher about it.

And also - you might not even have failed it - you never know.

^ To the above poster. I heard that Environmental science was very easy =P

Anyways, I agree with elisa. If you failed it, it may not be the best course for you to take. You could take an honors biology course so you get the material, and (if you are a sophomore this year), as a senior take AP Biology. Or if after taking an honors biology class you feel like you understand it, you could just study a little extra and take the AP Biology exam.

Those are my suggestions.

IVC = Irvine Valley College?

How much did you study for the test? even though you can't really study for those, haha. If you feel like you've studied like crazy and tried your hardest, then maybe you shouldn't take AP Bio. but on the other hand, AP Bio wasn't even offered at my high school and I have friends who studied own their own and took the test.

Okay, I don't mean to sound like a total ... and I'm sorry for being mean, but if you can't do well on a state exam (I'm assuming that state exams are relatively easy, cuz in MA, most people take the MCAS as a joke), think of what would happen to you in AP Bio. AP Bio is a lot more difficult that Bio 1.

CST = California State Testing? x_x

Dude, there's nothing to worry about. My Bio teacher pretty much handed us labs all year and taught little. I basically went into the CST with minimal knowledge and barely scraped off an Advanced.

I doubt your CST would affect your AP Biology merit. Isn't there summer homework? x_x Like if the CST scores come out and you don't make Proficient+, then all your efforts will go to waste? D;

Well, I was just notified the day before testing because CST week started off with 5th period which was biology for me.. so I had only one day to review like everything. I needed more than one day to get all my stuff together

But yeah, CST = California Star Test or something like that..
I just want to get into a good college, lol, so I need this AP class and I want to save as much money as possible

what school do you go to? Most people don't care about the CSTs because whether you score high or low it won't affect your grade. I know people who just bubbles in anything and still get high classes. Although it's kinda bad because the higher you score, the more moolah ($$) the school will get.

CST = California Standards Test

Anyway, I'm sorry to say this but.. people don't usually study at all for the CST's sweatingbullets.gif
I went into it every year without knowing what I was taking o_o

But yeah, take advantage of summer & if you really want to take AP Biology, take some biology books and study on your own wink.gif It should help.
