not sure if there's already been a topic posted like this since i'm not on soompi often, but...
i was just wondering if any of you girls can share your experiences with different types of birth control, since i'm switching and would preferably like one that isn't prone to causing weight gain/acne/etc., doesn't have a lot of side effects

i'm fully aware that different types of bc work differently for different people, but i still want to read about other people's experiences. i've heard good things about yasmin, yaz, seasonale, dionette, ortho tri-cyclen lo... anyone here ever been on any of these? apparently they're the most likely to not cause weight gain and can even alleviate acne problems? and i've heard ortho can even help you lose weight...?

i'm not asking for medical advice, just others' experiences so i can ask my gyno about different brands and such... thanks!

I took Orthotricylen for a couple of years, I didn't get any negative symptoms.
I then switched to Orthotricyclen Lo because the free clinic didn't supply the regular Ortho anymore
I've been taking Ortho Lo for about 5 years. I don't feel any negative effects.
My weight is stable, no mood swings, no acnes, etc, also my period is very predictable, but I've low sex drive .____.

Starting next week, I'm going to try out Mircette for a month or two.
My doctor recommended this brand because the pills have lower dose of hormones than Ortho Lo.
I'm kinda scared of the change, but who knows, maybe this one is better.
If not, i'll just call my doctor again and tell her I want to switch back.

there's a birth control which is a shot. it's called depo provera which is also known as the " 3 months shot " which means you get them 4 times a year. however there are side effects like .. irregular or unpredictable spotting or bleeding for the first few months. but i stopped after my first shot cause the side effect included mood swings and depression and i guess i was too paranoid to keep going on with the shot. my doctor told me not to use it for more than 2 years cause it tends to make your bones weaker or lost of bones or something. ask your doctor for information about it. they should add more facts to it.

birth control pills are good cause they help reduce acne and helps you have a regular period system but .. its pretty annoying taking it everyday at the same time.

I've been using Ortho-lo for the last few weeks now... It's helped my acne a little bit (I wasn't expecting miracles in such a short period of time, though, so I'm going to give it a couple more months) and stabilized the problems I was having with my period.

The only bad thing I noticed was the first week and a half I was on it, I felt hungry ALL THE TIME. I seriously would just sit down and... EAT. It was pretty horrible. I put on a few pounds in that week and a half because of it. I don't know if this is a true side effect of the pill, though, so please don't judge it from my description. However, it is what I noticed (I don't normally eat like crazy like I did those first few days) and that reaction has gone away now.

Good luck finding one that's right for you!

I used Cyclen for a couple of months and I had no side effects. No weight gain or loss, anything. I felt perfectly normal.

Um .. but yeah, i used YAZ for a while, and it works AMAZING. Like the commercials ain't liein. You ain't as mad and moody all the time, the bloatiness & acne is less. And no birth control can rid of your cramps, but YAZ toned it down MAJOR.

And then i Switched to loestrin . . . currently 9 months preggo, lol biggrin.gif

well, in the end i don't switch to mircette, cuz i found out my insurance doesn't cover it.
I don't want to pay $50 for one pack XD
Good thing I called my insurance company first ^^"

O well, i was hesitated to switch anyway. Ortho Lo works fine

I used to use Linessa, but it made me so depressed.

So I switched to Alesse, which still makes me mood swing and gain a lot of weight... and have a super high sex drive! but it was better than Linessa, and I don't know what other brands my insurance covers. sad.gif

I went on Dianette (Diane-35 here) and it was amazing I say, externally for my body. Bigger boobs, my skin was great, the pill also helped with hirutism (excess hair) and anti-androgenic so overall I had less oil production in my hair and body (i.e. face). While I didn't have hirutism I barely had to shave anymore. However, it made me completely moody. The smallest things would really set me off. Also while I did get breast growth they were tender.

Yasmin is great. Nice, soft skin, never broke out, no mood swings or anything. I had light spotting for the first month, other than that nothing. Two months ago I stopped only because I quit my job for school and couldn't pay for it. The free clinic gave me Min-Ovral (Levlen is another name for it). I'm pretty sure it's making my blood pressure go up though. I've been feeling pressures on parts of my body at odd times and I'll definitely be going to the clinic to ask them. My skin has gone back from what it was before Yasmin and Dianette - dry and I'm breaking out again.
