Hi guys,

I have a tough situation to deal with and I'm looking for a little advice. I wonder if anyone else has ever been in a similar situation...

I currently a college student and was just offered a great internship opportunity. I really want to take it; it would be a great resume booster and be a good place to spend my summer.

When I told my parents about this, they were intially happy and approved of my taking the offer, but my mother has recently become sort of angry at me because she wanted me to stay home and babysit my younger sister throughout the summer months. I'm in college but my sister is only in elementary school.

I feel very guilty about not wanting to stay home, but at the same token, I can't help but to feel that it's emotionally unhealthy for both me and my sister to stay home all summer long. Unfortunately, I live in a very rural area and it tends to be an isolating place to live!

If I pass up the internship, I will have let go of a truly fantastic opportunity, but nothing seems to console my parents' anger about my not wanting to babysit! Let me know what you all think. Thanks so much for your thoughts.

Even though it may seem selfish, you should go with the internship.
Opportunities don't come by very easy.

i agree with the above.
maybe you should try to find some sort of solution to appease ur parents... is there any other relatives near by that can babysit?
let ur parents know that this is important to u and it might be a once and a life time chance.

parents always do this to their kids.... i had a chance to study abroad for a year.... i was accepted and everything but they refuse to let me go/ support me. this was probably the only chance i had at this too... =\ they made me feel guilty as well saying that everyone will worry too much etc.

i wish u luck on ur situation. it's ur life... this may further ur future career... but family is always tough to get by...

tell your parents this: so you spent all the money for me to go to college and now i have a great opportunity that will help me in the future, and you just want me to let it pass by like that? what happened to "strive for the best"??
