-motherboard, so it can run a quadcore
-video card (perfer 512 ddr3)
-processor
-ram (perfer 2gb ddr2 @ 800mhz)
-power supply (min. 500 watts)
i don't know which parts are perferablely worth the value. my video card's mainly for devil may cry3, the asian emipre expansion of Ages of Empire, team fortress 2, and future games. can anyone give me a list of the following parts with the total of 600$ or less? (without tax)

I suggest you forget about quadcore. Quadcore is already like 400 bucks for a really cheap and crappy one.
You don't need quadcore. Multiple cores are useless if the game wasn't programmed to take advantage of it.

cpu: core 2 duo wolfdale 3.0 ghz e8400
gpu http://www.anitec.ca/product/9823/asus_en8...mb_pci_express/
case: antec sonata 3 at anitec for 110 dollras comes with earthwatts 500 watt
around 625 dollars
or do you want sli? if you want sli get a not as good cpu and a get a sli mobo for like 160 i guess.

To be honest, I hardly consider 650 to be an "upgrade"
That's a new machine...

-video card (perfer 512 ddr3)
-processor
-ram (perfer 2gb ddr2 @ 800mhz)
-power supply (min 500w)
I duno how you're gonna pull this off with 600$...
2 GB of DD2 @ 800mhz say 4-4-4-12 timings should be something like 90$ not too bad
Video card - for AoE and stuff like that, an 8800 GTX should suffice - should be 240$ or so. might run to 300$
power supply at 500w - nothing too worrisome, something like 120$ or so
processor, the mid range 9450 @ 2.66ghz comes at 350$. Quad core is nice depending on which programs you use more often
Motherboard - asus p5? or just stick to a safe evga since you're not OC'ing - 250$
thats...1060. You basically just bought a new computer minus the chassis and heatsink...
You might as well just add another 500, max your budget at 1.5k and tweak things around
a bit so you can get more bang for your buck.

...
why the 1234 do you need a 8800 gtx for a aoe-_- future games? 8600 should suffice ..it can play crysis
powersupply.. get the earthwatts 500 saves your power bill
cpu? just get q6600 2.4 ghz is plenty enough 240 dollars or just go for e8400 cause it's so awesome can oc to like 4ghz on stock cooling .. well i heard
mobo? don't need such an expnsive mobo... is he sliiing if so get the 130 asus moboif not.. get he 95 dollar gigabyte p35 ds3l
ram?get ocz platinum rev 2 1x2 gigs
and @TyneeTom: he asked for all that stuff thoughXD yeah it is ptretty much a new computer
but yeah.. get ^

my friend only has a e6600 and the GTX but he's pulling off 150 FPS on Gears of war at 16x12 resolution.
If you're intent of getting the quad core, get the 9450 instead. It uses a better archetecture then the Q6600 and its just all around
faster. (note, 9450 > Q6600, not QX6600)

so yeah 9450 would be faster.. butit costs so much more!!!!!!!
and why not just get the 8800gt it can play feature games!

1) my power supply is not meant for gaming
2) i don't want to invest THAT much on gaming. (max i'm willing to pay for a card is 200$)
3) i heard from a friend that getting such a good card with a crappy processor (my pentium D 2.8ghz) will slow the card down or some crap like that.
i mainly mentioned processor and new mobo because that friend said a crappy cpu (i find it's fast enough for me) will only depreciate the graphic peformance. anywho, if someone can clear this fact up for me, then that'll save me tons of $$ on a new processor and mobo. ^^

if the CPU is too inefficient the data packets will start bottlenecking and you'll hit the maximum
long before your GPU has reached its potential.
Yes the 9450 is using the 45nm archetecture and its number of transistors is about 300 million more.
It also has a couple other features and a nice copper build to keep temperatures low.
It doesn't seem like you'll be needing too much, the q6600 is fine. I suggest getting the 9450 just because
you dont add all that much more and you get a relatively nice performance boost. For your mobo you can
just get the P5 like cluu1 said. For 200, i think you might be able to get a super clocked GT? but i know
you can get a superclocked 9600 GT for sure though. These cards only require something like 300w?
a 500w PSU is more than enough.

Most likely stick to the dual-core cuz its cheaper.. ive seen q9450 go for 300$ at microcenter and $280 at fry's
RAM is extremely cheap at fry's.
sorry if i wasnt any help. LOL

-motherboard, so it can run a quadcore Something like Abit IP-35E/Entry Level Gigabyte (D)S3 ~$70
-video card (perfer 512 ddr3) The 8800GT is actually on sale for like $140 AR on the egg, currently. (@ ncix they have the BFG 8800GT for like $169)
-processor Q6600 isn't much slower than the 45nm variants, but much cheaper can be had for ~$200-220
-ram (perfer 2gb ddr2 @ 800mhz) I think 2GB of Crucial ballistix are like ~$25 now, lol
-power supply (min. 500 watts) You can get a Corsair HX520 from buy.com for ~$90 AR or something
Total isssss: $545-ish +Some tax/S&H + Some pre-rebate junk
(Unless prices up north are ridiculous even though the USD < CAD ) =[

mobo: Asus P5N-E SLI= 129$
power supply: OCZ 600W steathxtream= 85$
video card: eVGA GeForce 8600GT 256MB DDR3= 109$
Just wondering, because i don't want to waste my cpu (it's still good) will the 8600 gt function to it's full potential?
