why is it important to find the right college match based on who I am?

Because you want the best 4 years at a college that not only suits your educational needs, but personal interest too?

You wouldn't want to go to, lets say, a predominantly African-American school like Grambling or a majority Asian school like Berkeley (
) if you "scared" of African-Americans or Asian, respectively.
Same for other things. If you a city person and love the city, why go to Oklahoma State University.
Or if you love engineering, why go to Rhode Island Institute of Design.
You have to look for a college that fits your needs and fits what's best for you.

And colleges have a different "feel" to them.
Obviously American University in Washington D.C. has more political involvement as a whole than let's say University of Illinois.
Cornell has a great agricultural science program due to its' remote nature than let's say NYU which probably (I dunno for sure) has no agricultural science program (or none that can be really hands on at the very least)
Also would you want to go to a big school or a small school.
The University of Minnesota is like 55,000 students compared to Liberal Arts Colleges like Carleton with a student body under 2,000 students.
Finally what about political affiliations or religious affiliations.
I mean would you go to Bob Jones University (where they hate Catholics) if you were Catholic? Equally would you be willing to go to a very liberal school like Reed College if you were a staunch conservative. Or Thomas Aquinas College if you were a staunch liberal?
All reasons why you should know what kind of schools fit you.

Because you're going to spend 4 or more years of your life living on that campus and that school's eventually going to prepare you for the real world. How you feel about that school is definitely going to affect your academic performance.
