I'm planning on selling my car but I had a few questions about the selling process...

If the buyer would like the receipts of the maintenance/car accessories, is it okay if I give them a photo copy instead?

Some of my purchases were paid with a credit card, should I just scratch of my personal information on the receipt or just refuse to give them a copy?

Do I have to give both copies of my ownership to the buyer?

Do I have to contact my car insurance company before I sell my car (after the buyer is 100% sure they're gonna buy the car) to give them a few days/weeks notice or after I've sold it?

My car insurance expires in August. Will I have to pay a cancellation fee? If yes, how much will I be expected to pay (roughly)?

When I purchased my car, I got a loan from the dealership, so what happens with my payments? Do I have to contact the dealership that I sold my car and continue to pay off the loan? Or there's no need to notify them and just continue my monthly payments?

1) of course... if he/she is anal and think the photocopies are fake, why dont you just show her the receipts, and then photocopy them.

I had every receipt on my last car... including all of my gas fill-ups. but when it came down to hand over the keys, the buyer didn't even want any receipts... I think he either forgot about it or was just giddy as a schoolgirl on the go-kart he just bought. or maybe both.

2) I would. Just photocopy with a paper under the numbers to cover sensitive stuff.

3) both copies? Are you talking about the title? you should only have one.

4) You can cancel your policy at anytime, however it's up to them when the last day of charge will... charge. Normally its standard. (12:01 = the next day) Although it's weird how they decide when to START a policy up... They gave me a weird time on my last policy... 11:53 P.M. or something.

5) You might have to pay a cancellation fee (probably will). I just canceled my policy a few days ago after being insured for 3 weeks. $50 charge for me.

6) No clue. Never had to take one out when I had to sell a car.

good luck.

he does not have any title docs because he doesnt own the car. the dealership does.

contact your financing company before making the sale and ask them what their procedure is. if the person wishes to take over he payments, s/he will have to have their credit run and approved before taking your name off.

Yes

Some of my purchases were paid with a credit card, should I just scratch of my personal information on the receipt or just refuse to give them a copy?
Scratch it off

Do I have to give both copies of my ownership to the buyer?
You only need to give the title to the buyer, and even then you keep the stub

Do I have to contact my car insurance company before I sell my car (after the buyer is 100% sure they're gonna buy the car) to give them a few days/weeks notice or after I've sold it?
Your insurance company can do it instantaneously

My car insurance expires in August. Will I have to pay a cancellation fee? If yes, how much will I be expected to pay (roughly)?
Depends on your insurance company. I get reimbursed.

When I purchased my car, I got a loan from the dealership, so what happens with my payments? Do I have to contact the dealership that I sold my car and continue to pay off the loan? Or there's no need to notify them and just continue my monthly payments?
You should contact the company. I've never had to sell a car I didn't own. I believe they write you a check and they take the car home with them, then you give whatever amount you owe on the car so you can free up the title and give it to the new owner. If your bank is close then I believe you can do it in your bank on the spot with the new potential owner

I am poor. Please spare a dollar if you see me :)

All of your questions are valid questions. Yet the answers will vary depending on where you're from because all DMVs(or what I call Ministry of Transportation where I'm from) have their own rules and regulations about what is supposed to be done when you sell a car.

If the buyer would like the receipts of the maintenance/car accessories, is it okay if I give them a photo copy instead?
This depends on what the accessory is, and whether or not an original sales receipt would be needed for warranty work. Check with the warranty on electronics like aftermarket stereos and the like. in regards to service records, you might as well give them original receipts.

Some of my purchases were paid with a credit card, should I just scratch of my personal information on the receipt or just refuse to give them a copy?
Read explanation above. The personal information portion is at your own discretion.

Do I have to give both copies of my ownership to the buyer?
Where I'm from (Ontario, Canada) this is NEVER to be done. EVER.
Not sure about where you're from.. but here my ownership has 2 sides to it that can be torn down the middle.
One side is the plate portion and the other side is the vehicle portion. Somewhere on it, it says that I'm supposed to keep the plate portion(used when I decommission the plates or attach them to a different car in the future) and I(and the buyer) sign on the back of the vehicle portion. They take the vehicle portion with them and forfeit it to the Ministry of Transportation when they register the vehicle under their own name.
There's a few other things you might need to provide to buyer if they request it, but I'm not sure where you're from so I won't bother explaining that stuff... basically, if you're unsure about this part, consult with your local juristiction and find out what you're supposed to do about the ownership.

depends on juristiction.. where I'm from, we're not required to do this; yet I'd do it ASAP anyways, because I pay monthly and don't want the insurance to roll over for another month and charge me for a car I no longer have. If you want the solid answer, you have to call your company and ask them what they want you to do.

My car insurance expires in August. Will I have to pay a cancellation fee? If yes, how much will I be expected to pay (roughly)?
Depends on the company. Mine will just cancel/reinstate on the day of my request, all it takes is a phone call to my broker and i'm good to go. Once again, depends on your company and whether or not you have a contract with them.

When I purchased my car, I got a loan from the dealership, so what happens with my payments? Do I have to contact the dealership that I sold my car and continue to pay off the loan? Or there's no need to notify them and just continue my monthly payments?
Here, we have to pay the ENTIRE balance of the loan off before we're allowed to sell a car that still has an outstanding balance on it. You can sell it, but the car cannot be re-registered by the new owner unless you pay the entire loan off. Once again though, consult the dealership who financed the car for you for details.

Yeah, because you have a loan on the car, the car is partly owned by the loan company, a lien. If you look at your DMV registration the lien ownership will have the loan company's info on it. So you really can't sell unless you either pay off the payments or contact the loan company (because technically they own the other half of you car). I'm not 100% sure this is correct but the lien will make things difficult. I know that when you finish paying off the loan you must contact the loan company to have them remove themselves off the car's registration as the lien ownership and you have to be reissued a new registration slip.

As for the reciepts, the reciepts are not part of the car, and those reciepts are owned by you. You don't need to give them anything. Its not like most of those warranties on the stuff you bought for the car is going to be transferable. Many state that the warranty is only for the original owner of the part.
