Why sometimes when you download a file, it stops downloading and just doesn't progress...?

Would you by any chance have a wireless network?
Bad reception can cut you off.

Your router might just be doing a bad job routing

or the server you are downloading from sucks

Advice? Get a download manager. Such as Flashget, or getright. There should be one open source one thats free.

I'd say most of the time is the connection between the server and your computer. For small files, I just use the defualt firefox download manager. But for large files that have a chance of breaking connection, I use flashget for is ability to resume.
