When it comes to digital cameras, does more megapixels neccesarily mean better quality photos?

and also, are there any main functions i should look for in a camera?

no, megapixels just means how big the picture can be, not how clear it will be

the # of megapixels of a camera is just how much info that can be stored in a photo.. its ONE of many things that make up quality photos. if you're just a casual user, you should look for compactness, expansion slot type (SD? MMC?), price and maybe how much optical zoom it has. but seriously, you cant go wrong with most of the brand cameras you can get nowadays.

if you're a pro photographer well then... its a little more involved, lol crazy.gif

marketing scheme, for the most part.

http://news.cnet.com/More-megapixels,-bett..._3-6156398.html

"The trouble is megapixels stopped mattering once we passed 6 of them," MacAskill said. "One in a million shots would benefit from more than 6 megapixels, while every indoor shot would benefit from less noise."

most people recommend anything from 6 megapixels and above.

factors in choosing a camera? i'd go with reviews/lens/brand.

go with a canon/nikon and you'll be a happy camper.
