ok well when I was in kindergarten i was hit by a car...
I was fine with being inside a car but when it was time
for me to get my license....T_T
And to make it worse our school showed the juniors and seniors
a mock scene of a drunk driving accident
in front of our school sleep.gif
they blocked the whole street and showed banged up cars with
students hanging out of it with fake blood everywhere.
They even had the police and coroners act out what they would
do if it was real...

anywho i'm deathly afraid of driving... HELP ME tears.gif

if your scared of driving, just don't drive.. not only are you doing something you don't want to do.. you are probably putting others at risk on the. You can live without driving.

I respectfully disagree with jphase. There's no way out of driving for people that live in Cali. You're not going to kill anyone if you do not drive drunk and if you're careful.

Driving is scary at first, but then you get really used to it. at least i did.

there are people who drive because they have to even though they are scared to and those are the people who seem to slam on the brakes, and not know what to do at some places. but if there is no way out.. i guess yea.. the only way is to just keep practicing?

Perhaps you never got over the trauma of being hit when you were little? You're only perpetuating your fears of driving by dwelling on the negative thoughts. It's hard to go through life not knowing how to drive though. It's going to take you some time to get used to being in control of a car, so I would suggest you talk to someone about this to get over your phobia. If you can afford it, maybe a counselor or therapist. There seems to be an emotional/mental distress that you feel when you think about driving. But don't psyche/scare yourself too much. Driving takes time and experience. It's not as scary as it seems because you have to realize that you're in control of the car when you're driving.

Become angry,

All fear disapears after that.

Get into the drivers seat.

Talk to yourself, and be angry at the car.

"john tesh you, john teshing steering wheel, I'm going to put on my john teshing belt now. You're not going to crash because I'm not going to let you, you kool-aidgot ass car."

And just be angry the whole time ur driving.

One month ago I was just like you, scared of driving.

But I'm fearless now.

if 99.9% of people can drive, then why can't you?

ahahaha.

That even worse than being the bottom 10 percentile for something.

that means ur the bottom .1 percentile!

I haven't been hit by a car when I was 5 years old, so my fear of driving is probably not even comparable in magnitude to yours, but do you think you could just try to drive a little bit, like in a big parking lot or something? I was really scared when I first started driving because this one time, after many driving lessons, my brother let me drive his car (back then it was a brand new Civic coupe)... and I crashed into a curb sweatingbullets.gif He yelled at me so much and since then I got even more scared of driving... But I wanted to drive because I wanted to be able to get around places myself without having to depend on people for rides, so I just kept at it and now I can drive and I actually enjoy driving (except for the gas prices these days... D: ) biggrin.gif

If you are scared of driving, like a morbid fear, dont drive.

I hate people who are afraid to drive and end up nearly causing accidents because of their unpredictable braking and swerving.

Learn to get over it and drive, or not drive, because there are no other way. If you are afraid to sing, and you go on stage to sing without learning to control your fears, what do you think will happen? Mess up or do a good job?

Save yourself some grief and learn to control your fears, get consoling or whatever, so you don't crash and permanently scar yourself.

When I was 8 years old, I ran out into the middle of the street across from my school and I got raped by a bike so bad I broke my arm; I have friends that have hurt badly and died from car accidents, I have scene accidents where people were pretty much crushed to nothing but a pancake. I have never gotten scared of driving or biking... and I am not fearless lol, I get too scared to sleep after I watch horror movies.

Sorry to be so harsh tongue.gif But the world isnt a sugar candy.

If it makes you feel better, when I drive past ghetto area's I get so scared and tense my back hurts cuz I'm basically sitting straight up in my car seat lol.

I have my liscence but i'm really scared of driving. I just keep worrying that i'm gonna hit someone or someone is gonna hit me. Also for some reason i'm really bad at parking. I get really nervous and panic especially when people are waiting behind me. Personally I blame it on my first driving instructor for not making me feel comfortable about driving. He made me feel like I was horrible and pretty much told me so. I HATE him. I payed all that money for him to make me feel that way and you can TELL he was getting frustrated. Personally I don't think I was THAT bad. Atleast I didn't hit any cars or anything. I just don't drive. My parents keep telling me I need to drive considering I do live in LA unless I wanna take the bus everywhere for the rest of my life.

I dont blame you, I used to be confident in my driving.

Now I got myself my Lexus, I've been terrified of hitting things driving or parking or people hitting me. I had the car for 6 months and I have hit stupid crap people drop on the highway, nearly sideswiped many cars because I am too busy to look for other cars not to hit and miss the lane merging signs, and have gotten hit in the parking lot

Where as I drove my Integra for almost 4 years without a single incident.

You have to chill out, I did! (until I got 18" rims which now I am scared of potholes and thats all I look when I am driving, at the road for potholes lol)

Just know that in life, if you want to get to your destination,
you're eventually going to have to stop depending on other people.

Take it slow. Why don't you try driving on a riding lawn mower or a four wheeler or something like that.
it doesn't go as fast as a real car, but you'll get the experience. My dad made me drive the lawn mower
before he let me get inside a car.

You have to overcome your fear, plain and simple. Drive carefully and always remember to keep your eyes on the road. When you're in more congested areas, make sure you constantly scan the road especially for pedestrians and bicyclists. A lot of people drive like they are on automatic driving mode and get careless. Make it a habit to always drive carefully and you should be good to go.

I just use cruise control on the posted legal speed limit in the slow lane in six gear @ 2800 RPMs with DCCD on rear. People in Virginia drive faster than the speed limit. So if they want me to go faster, they're SOL.

Just practice slowly and you'll get the hang of it. But if you're so scared to the point where it's driving phobia...then uh..there's always the bus right?
