I've been wondering this too..but I've just been cooking the tomatoes I eat to be on the safe side. not really sure if sauteing or boiling them really does anything against the virus though laugh.gif

I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it's the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It's probably the most important thing in a person.

Tomoatoes are safe when they are fully cook. The heat pretty much destroys the bacteria. Same thing goes for raw meat and raw eggs (well, basically anything raw).
I like eating raw tomatoes especially the cherry kinds but now I can't sad.gif

the virus in it, is salmonella. isn't salmonella a bacteria though?
but anyway, its safe as long as its fully cooked.

and there is a specific kind of tomatoes that have it, not all.
anyone know? ( i saw this on the news, im such a nerd)

Tomatos are more nutritious when cooked. Cooking releases vitamins from within tomatos.

No. And the bacteria is Salmonella.
Supposedly even handling a tomato with Salmonella is bad
since it can spread to your hands, counter, utensils, etc.

if the tomatoes are grown in your yard, THEY ARE SAFE TO EAT.
but if they are from the market and all, you'll get salmonella.

BUT! my brother says that the only safe tomatoes are the
grape tomatoes that you eat with salads (store bought and
home grown). if you bought roma or other tomatoes (much bigger
than the grape toatoes) from the store, then you can't eat them.

same goes with cantaloupe.

if you live in california, you can eat the tomatos...or that's what they said on the news...if you want to be extra cautious though, eat cherry tomatos because they don't contain salmonella in them

okay guys what virus are we talkin here?

*after searching it on yahoo*

i think there's no asian country mentioned on the affected areas, unless of course tomatoes on your country is imported from those country then be cautious.

since i am a hundred percent sure that our tomatoes here are from local, then i dont have to worry much. tomato is part of almost all our recipe here in philippines. i love it fully cooked

I'm sure eating the tomatoes after they've been cooked is fine. The heat will kill the salmonella.

everyday, it's You i live for...
