I was wondering if, like what I said above, I wore braces for three years(from age 12-15), then got them removed a year ago. Since then I got a bit lazy with the retainers, and I don't actually wear them that much unless my parents notice or when I have to go to my dentist.

My teeth are now slightly moving forward...like, you'd see them like
(slightly)
/ < side view, upper jaw.
\ < side view, lower jaw.

My treatment wasn't that perfect, my teeth were still a bit slanted, but not as much as now. When I put on my wire retainers, I feel the same as the time when I had my braces installed--it hurts like hell.

My question is, will retainers be able to fix this(If I wear my retainers more often now), or do I have to get braces again? ~_~

I would just start wearing your retainer as often as possible now and see what happens later. Your teeth may or may not move back, but at least if you wear your retainer they'll stay where they are. Don't panic, if your teeth haven't gotten too bad you prolly won't need braces again.

Tsk tsk.. you should have kept up with your retainers.. x: I have the same problem with mine, except they totally don't fit anymore! ): My teeth jet outwards but they're okay. It's not going to move more than it already is. But you haven't worn them for a year, that's not bad.... try wearing them (even though it'll hurt), because it still somewhat fits your teeth. In the long run, if you're not satisfied with your teeth... braces are the only option again (one year is good enough to shift your teeth back). I'm thinking about getting that done as well, but not anytime soon because I don't want to pay again.

You should definitely keep wearing your retainers for now. They ARE supposed to hurt like you have braces again, like you feel it "pulling" together your teeth 'cause that's how it keeps it straight and together. If you don't wear it, it's gonna get really messed up (happened to my friend) and it'll definitely not be straight and you'll have to get braces again if you wanna fix it.

If you think about it, the retainers only hurt for a short while, and then it doesn't anymore after your teeth adjusts to it and pulls back together in place.

That reminds me that I've got an ortho check up next week..
I had braces like 4 years ago (for about 9 months)..
and I started to wear my retainer every night as told..
and then every other day.. and then once a week.. to every other week..
to twice a month (right now, haha).

Yeah, so it's a pain the butt to jam the retainer back in your mouth
D:< But, you gotta do what you gotta do to save that smile of
yours :| I recommend taking aspirin/some kind of ibuprofen
and then sticking it back in.. of course it hurts, but it is your fault
for not taking care of your teeth. :| Unless you'd like to tell your
parents what you've done to yourself.. and you might get yelled
at.. etc D:<

Not good.

Thanks. I don't want to pay for braces, they're expensive...plus the monthly checkups. ;__;

Wow. What happened? How long did you not wear them? Mine still fit tho, only too painful.

I know. It's supposed to put pressure to pull them back. I've tried for two straight days, but I couldn't bear it. Can pain killers help?

XD My parents yell at me 'cause it cost a lot, and they notice my teeth shifting outwards. ~_~

Yes, it's my fault. I'll try...once I get some kind of painkiller that would at least lessen the pain or so. I hate the plastic plate the retainers are attached to, they feel weird. ;_;

This ahjomah I knew had braces when she was in her twenties or thirties? but stopped wearing her retainers for a few years. Her teeth became kinda messed up and she had to go through a painful surgery to fix her teeth (it was expensive too).

You should just try to force yourself to wear your retainers if your teeth hasn't moved that much but if it has you should ask your orthodontist what to do. good luckkkkkkkk

yeh retainers are important, especially just after you've removed your braces. its what keeps your teeth in position.

i wear them daily just before i go to sleep and take them off in the morning. no one notices. been wearing my retainers for 4 years now.

give yourself a mental note:

"am i going to waste another $$ and 1-2 years for another brace?"

suck it up, beauty is pain, usually the pain only last for about 2-3 days

Even if it hurts, you should wear them. I was told that after braces, you were suppoed to wear retainers all the time for a year and then only at night for a year. But supposedly, you're supposed to wear your retainers at night for the rest of your life.

I didn't wear my retainers much during when I was supposed to wear it all the time because it was really uncomfortable and I had trouble talking in class with them on. And eventually, I stopped wearing them all together. Now it doesn't even fit me sleep.gif.

If it hurts, it's bad, you should wear it as much as possible now.
After maybe 3 weeks to a month, it'll probably stop hurting, and your teeth might be fixed.

I myself is in the process of wearing braces right now. I'm suppose to take it off like 2 months ago, but my teeth aren't actually straight. So they give me more times. I heard one of my dental hygienists told me she had to wear her retainer after braces but she didn't wear it like for couple of months she started to have gaps in her teeth like it used to be like before she didn't have braces, so she started to wear her retainer everyday at night from then onward her teeth slowly shifted and now they are straight again. She told me it is very important to wear your retainer after braces, she was telling me this after she was done cleaning teeth, when I told her that she has nice beautiful straight teeth. She told it wasn't easy but if you want your teeth look good you have to make the effort. I hate to wear to rubber band with my braces even I hate it so much, I still have to wear them.

Just keep your retainers on.

Yes it will hurt, but like all pain, it will stop after your teeth get used to it.

Keep your retainers on. When you don't wear your retainer after braces, you teeth is still sort of loose and unstable. That's why you need to wear the retainers.
