so i just wanted to ask you soompiers of your opinions about sony products. for me, i think its great, considering majority of my tech stuff are sony [laptop/computer/tv/dvd/cell phone/etc] but for my boyfriend, he thinks sony products are too expensive and not that great.

so what are your opinions about sony products?

haha SONY is too expensive, but they're a good brand, so they can make their prices as ridiculous as they want and loyal buyers will keep buying rofl

their earphones are nice, but a bit too expensive and there are better alternatives for the same price
same for their notebooks (I've went through 3 Vaios though despite this fact) haha

i read this quote somewhere, "sony can sell a brick, and people would still buy it". it's true, imo

a lot of sony's products are good, no doubt, but you do pay a premium . i also dislike their use of proprietary formats, like instead of using SD/CF like everyone else, for their cameras, laptops, cellphones, they use their own proprietary MMC cards. annoying! same goes with their music players. remember atrac? that was a mess. betamax? blunder.

but hey, they know how to make things look good. sorta like apple in a way.

The thing about Sony is really it's a little less about the actual electronics than the style. I really think Sony really tries to tap into the desirability/sexiness for the mass market, rather than compete on a pure technical level.

Their LCD TVs are top notch but I honestly think the rest of their stuff is just above average, esp. for the premium you pay for the brand name.

I don't see Sony anymore as a major technological innovator...

I remember when they still sold tube TVs, the difference between their Trinitron picture tube compared to other standard TVs was quite amazing (in terms of picture quality).

Sony (partnered with Philips) also introduced the CD and they were also the ones to innovate digital audio recording (in the 70s). Also not to mention the introduction of MiniDisc, which in a small way was the precursor to CD-Rs and rewritable discs.

Sony to me, used to be a high-end brand with quality products. Today I just don't see them the same anymore. Their products are all over the map in terms of quality and innovation. I see some very nice products from Sony, such as the Playstation 3 and Blu-ray discs, but also they produce some crappy products with low quality (I don't even want to name what those are).

The only sony product that I'm proud to have bought, was the Sony PS3.
There's almost no other electronic that is branded SONY that I have. other than the sony ps2 and the sony ps1. ...SONY

my personal opinion about sony is they work great, some of them can be seen as the best but most of arent. they are a bit over priced but when it comes down to durability it's pretty well off.

Im a unlucky son of a pinkberry when it comes to buying sony products.
Its ALWAYS john teshing defective. I remember the first time I got a PSP I
was too lazy to turn it in, and I bought a new SE phone and it looks like
someone vomited all over it and used it.....whatever. Its not SE fault. Well, the PSP
one probably. Other than that, I LOVE SONY products....cept the cameras. Canon FTW.

aha, yeah same here! i had one of their mp3 players... i think it was 512mb (a large size back then). it looked nice and all, but the software was complete crap! it made itunes look like gold.

we still have sony's trinitron TV, and its still decent after all these years. same with the ps2 i still like to play sony's a mixed bag sometimes.

I love PSP... A lot of functions....
I love Sony Products too...But they're too expensive (over $100 for a 128mb MP3 player... T_T -> I'd rather buy the Chinese one, only $4...lol)

I didn't want to conform to everyone around me and buy iPods, so I veered towards Sony.

i advise you not to buy a Vaio right now because Sony will release new ones next month with new designs and the new screen changes
