Er, for example.
I'm going to be a Junior this September.

In Freshman year, I got maybe 2 90's the whole year. Most of my grades were in the 70's and 80's. Probably one or 2 65.

In Sophomore year, I never got a grade lower than 70 (Haha, I'm not very ambitious). My grades were either in the high eighties or ninties. So as you see, I greatly improved in sophomore year.

I had no extracurriculars in Freshman year. In Sophomore year, I was in 2 clubs: newspaper and a environmental club.

In Junior year, I would be taking Honors English and Spanish (In my school, you can't take AP's until senior year).

So for Junior year, I'm trying to "turn my life around"... I'm actually starting to care about school more...

So do schools look at how you improved from Freshman year to your Senior year?

Thanks for all and any replies. Sorry if there is a post like this already.

To answer the question:

Yes.

If you improve your grades while taking gradually harder classes, that is very good.

^ Ditto. If you improved, they'll definitely look at your application under a more favorable light.

Of course it's better when they see you have improved, but you have to make sure you are actually going to improve and not just say it.

I think in the end, they would pick a consistent 90 avrg student over a student who went from low to a 90 avrg providing the two students are equal at everything else

I was the same way freshman and sophomore year. I just finished junior year with all high B's to A's!

Colleges like progress so it will probably look better to them than someone consistent.

Yeah...I'm planning on improving my junior year too..freshman and sophomore years..I had no motivatiion and direction in what I wanted in life, career/major-wise. Now that I know I want to be, along the lines of a business major, I promised myself I'd get all 90+'s this year. I've even started studying on a daily basis...last 2 years I just studied a day or 2 before exams and tests.
Lets hope this school year will be good!!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Doing more extracurriculars for the sole purpose of getting into college? Why hasn't anyone else thought of that?
Oh wait...

Op, I thankyou for making this thread! I wouldn't have thought to make it on my own, but reading it has greatly improved my outlook on the upcomming school year.

In general colleges want consistently high grades with some marked improvements from freshman to the end of jr year.

senior year - first semester grades still count..

2nd semester - its more on you're not really allowed to have D's or F's. :] but some slacking off is almost expected.

(ironically, I managed to finally pull a 4.0 weighted senior year. and my class ranking jumped forward about 40 people XDDDD hahahahahaha.)

BTW - whether you get an A- or an A+ it doesnt matter. only letter grades (without plus's or minus's) show up on your transcript :]

This may seem random but I heard it was better to get B's and C's ina harder class than A's in an easy class..
but colleges only look at GPAs so XP!!
