She is 15 and weighs 60-65kg and wants to loose more than 20kg
I couldn't really answer the question because i wanted to gain weight instead of losing [opposite]
She also wants to be healthy..... Well, She prefers healthy food than oily food and alot of meats

so does anybody have any tips?

Both of you should EXERCISE.

For your friend, tell her to stick to a healthy diet & exercise.

For you, eat a lot of food... and lift weights to gain more muscle mass. Muscle weighs more than fat.

First off, how tall is your friend? If she's tall, then she has to consider a lot of her weight is bone mass and even supporting muscle. Losing 20kg is A LOT. You mentioned she's 60-65kg..that's actually quite a wide range. But if she's around 130 pounds, I really don't suggest her losing 44-45 pounds.

Nonetheless, eating healthy will help to a degree. But what she should really be doing is cardio (joggin, skipping, etc) in addition to eating right. Also, I don't suggest telling your friend to LOSE muscle, but not working out your thighs will ultimately decrease the muscles there :S. Instead of losing the muscles, can't she just tone them? She can do so through squats, yoga, pilates, or so on.

Carbs are also very fattening (rice, noodles, pasta), so if she eats those often, she should eat smaller portions or eat them less frequently. Also, eat smaller portions of meals-- small portions, but more freuqnetly. Don't eat large meals that are spaced far apart in the day.

Finally, she should be drinking a lot of water (average 8 cups a day). This will help flush out any toxins.

As to weight gaining, you're 12 right now and your body is still growing. Give it time, because your bones still need to grow and when they do, your weight will naturally increase. Eat more rice/carbs. And this may sound weird, but you can also gain weight exercising. Instead of doing cardio, which helps lose fat, train your muscles so that your muscle mass increases.

She shouldn't lose THAT much weight or she wants to be anorexic ....and it's really unhealthy.... she's 5"5? it's ok to weight 60 kg, but she should live healthy not unhealthy anyways... she should do lots of exercise, if she really wants to lose weight and it really healthy, skipping a meal won't help, too...

aqbout gaining weight...hmmm exercise and eat more?

hey~ i think since your 12 and weigh 35-40 kg it's normal. and i think you should be happy with what your weight is at the moment. because i weighed the same as you when i was 12, and then i grew taller and got some muscles and now weigh about 50kg and im about 5'7". so you should just let time get to you and you'll weigh more later... ^^

If she's 5'5, I think she should be aiming for at least 115pounds (though 120's great for her height too). Her goal to lose more than 20kg is actually quite unhealthy. I don't think she should be damaging her health just to look model thin.

As I've mentioned before, for you...eat more carbs, they give you energy and they're quite fattening. After exercising you can also drink a protein shake. Protein shakes help you grow muscle, but I don't see why you don't want those? Muscle mass is much healthier (and useful) than fat. But really, your weight at age 12 is fine. Like I said, you're still growing...later on your your bones will grow bigger and your hormones will change while your metabolism slows.

i posted this in the other thread, hope this helps...

my teacher... who was a doctor before, always taught us to eat HALF the FAT calories of our IDEAL WEIGHT.
so lets say you want to be 120, you should only eat 60 calories from fat a day.

60% of the calories intake should be carbs
20% should be protein
20% should be fat

he had us make a "ideal" menu for ourselves and my numbers came very close to the recommended percentages.

as you can see, you dont have to NOT eat at all to lose weight. i havent tried this because i dont want to lose weight, but he showed us health documentaries about this kind of healthy diet, and it WORKS!

i remember i calculated how much calories i should take in if i want to loser 2 pounds in a week and it was 1072 calories intake a week.
if you are interested in this method, i can get into greater details, this way you can lose weight and still be healthy. =]
and of course excercise is always a plus too. but too much can be bad for you, so know your limit

to calculate how much calories you should take in
http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

if your not gaining weight, you should take in more fat.
since you want to be about 100 pounds, take in 50 calories of fat a day
this way you can still be healthy, and you wouldnt have to stuff yourself

thanx for the help guys!

i used 2 weigh 35 before.....i weigh 40 now cos i was eating alot for 6months
but i think i'll stop and don't want to be fat anymore
cos the food is too much for me and VERY unhealthy.
i get ill 3 times a week and kind of throw up more than 2-3 times a day
so my "be fat" journey officialy ends here!
hope i'm making the right decision.....i'll just wait to "be fat" when it's the "right" time

my friend has lost 5kg....she was so excited to see her weight loss
im happy for her
