Anyways, I've had braces for 3 years now and I just got them off today.
I'm moving back to the US and my orthodontiste doesn't want me leaving with them on since he doesn't believe that I'll be getting treated after I move (personal problems).

So~ the truth is that even though my teeth look perfect without the braces, my teeth weren't really ready yet to have my braces taken off.

I have a gap between my canine tooth and my 4 front teeth and I don't have any type of retainer to keep it in place.
I'm afraid that a gap will appear between my two front tooth! And I'm freaking out cause I can see a small difference. And it's the same day I got them off!
And because of the gap I'm pretty sure that there will be some shifting involved.

As for my bottom teeth, I have the 6 front teeth bonded, so I have a permanent retainer but I'm really worried for my top teeth.

Is it normal that I don't have a retainer of some sort for my top teeth? I have another friend who doesn't wear a retainer either and he's had his taken off for almost two years now and his teeth are still as they were when his braces were taken out. But I hear stories all the time about how everyone gets retainers after their braces.

So long story short, should I ask my new orthodentiste to get my front teeth bonded?
Or do you think I'll have to get a removable retainer for my top teeth so my teeth will move into place? I don't think braces are necessary at this point just to tighten my top teeth. But I'm also worried about the new price I'll have to pay. How much are retainers usually?
And who else here doesn't have retainers for their top or bottom teeth?
Is it normal?

I'm getting pissed off at my orthodontiste dry.gif

Thanks for helping~

I don't think it's normal. You should get retainer for the top teeth. If you don't get retainer, your teeth might move and it would mess up your teeth.

Retainers are in the range of $100-$400 depending on what you need. I would recommend seeing an orthodontist as soon as you get settled in the States in order to prevent anymore shifting in your teeth. Get a business card from your old orthodontist and present it to your "new" orthodontist in the States and see if they can get your files and stuff and see if they should still give you a retainer.

you definitely need a retainer because you weren't even ready to take the braces off yet and teeth will shift over time so you gotta get something to keep them in place.

don't let the 3 years of hard work go to waste!

I think you need a retainer. It shouldn't be TOO expensive. Easiest ones would be removable plastic ones that are molded to the shape of your teeth..ask your new orthodontist about them.

Yeah I think you need a retainer ...
When my brother got his off, he had a retainer but didn't wear it for as long as he was supposed to, and his teeth shifted back a little.
Or ask your orthodontist about it and see if he/she thinks you need a retainer.

Thanks for the help everyone.

I'm going to call my sister in the states to get me an appointment as soon as possible.
Hopefully my old orthodontist will still have my records et files!
Because the idea of getting new x-ray scans and everything is really tiring.
I'm worried and excited at the same time lol I miss my teeth.

thanks for helping again. I appreciate it.
