I think most of them are not unlocked. Don't quote me on this but my friends went back there and they said that the phones there aren't.

Maybe SHOW phones?
B/C my grandma's phone can do the korean network,
and then switch over to GSM.
But, they are expensive..

^Im pretty sure GSM is pretty common for korea and most of europe and asia I know there are some exceptions (hong kong?) but not quite as many CDMA phones.

In the US the phones are pretty split... Att and Tmobile uses GSM while Sprint and Verizon uses CDMA

^ I'm pretty sure that most carriers in Korea use CDMA, meaning that they cannot be unlocked the way GSM phones are.
That's why Korean phones only work with Verizon.

I think you got it the other way around because in Hong Kong many people use GSM networks , as so does Europe and different parts of Asia. Korean phones usually are CDMA , thats why you dont see as many of their phones being unlockable or people selling them.

Technically any phone by LG and Samsung whether GSM or CDMA is 'Korean' because those are two cell phone makers from Korea. ._.

^ & I'm sure that we're all aware about that.
We're just talking about phones that have been released in Korea.. Like the ones with Korean.

when I was in Korea it was pretty split. Most of my friends who got phones through their families accounts had gsm phones. I had to use a used phone through my school and it was a cdma phone. So it all really depends

LOL. XD I wouldn't think they'll be using English anyways haha. Anyways, the only thing that the OP can do is use a gsm equivalent to the CDMA phone. Like Mikki's white phone (from a thread around here) is CDMA but there's an unlocked GSM version which is the 707SC. Because the OP has ATT it's even harder to find a korean phone though. Like she wouldn't be able to use the 1st gen. viewty because that's tri-band. If she/he has any korean phones in mind I can try and find the GSM equivalent of it but I wouldn't guarantee that they were exactly the same.

That was exactly what I had in mind but I didn't want to say so at first in case I wind up looking like an idiot. tongue.gif

It's hard enough getting Korean phones to work on verizon wireless -- it's not possible to get a Korean phone in GSM, period.
