Everyone I know is into Wonder Girls, Suju, etc...you know all these idol bands.
For some reason I don't like listening to idol music ... cuz alot of them cant sing
I am more into stuff like Brown Eyed Girls and less of the teenybopper music...
people often think im weird that i dont listen to wg, suju as much

i have to exclude big bang though sweatingbullets.gif

I mean I LOVEEE to watch idol groups on variety shows and stufff cuz they really are entertaining
but as far as their music goes i can't really listen to alot of their songs
like i usually only find one or two songs i like then the rest i dont bother with

But with other genres other than idol music i think i can listen to more songs and fully absorb the music? iono get what i mean? hard to explain but yeahhh

Anyone feel similar to me??

Aw! Ur NOT alone!
Honestly I like all sorts of music. So I guess I'm not entirely on your side. I find the idol songs very catchy so I can't help myself. But I understand where you're coming from and I'm sure there are lots of people who agree with you. Definitely groups like SeeYa and VOS are better at singing than the idol groups. But the idol groups aren't so bad at singing IMO, so I sort of disagree with you there. For example, DBSG is so good at acapella!

I listen to songs that I like. Despite the fact that sometimes certain artists can't perform certain songs live, haha I can't deny that they're catchy. I love listening to non-idol groups like humming urban stereo and such, but in general I don't really say no to music just because they can't sing it live, it's not about them being an idol group, but some songs just have amazing producers/composers, rofl, and you just fall in love with the songs. I mean voice quality wise, sure there's tons of groups out there that sing better than idol groups, but it's about the finish product for me

Well, no genre just music, right ?

As long as we love the songs, that's all that counts. Who cares if they're overrated or underrated, if you like the artist, you just do. If not, then pass.

Soompi may seem to be dominated by those 'teenyboppers' fans but of course, there are still tons of people who like something more different.

I'm sure a lot of people do ._.
As for me, I have my share of both mainstream and "underground".
BEG is my fav girlgroup, but I also like watching shows with SNSD/WG
DBSK has killer voices, SG Wannabe as well, but I really like SuJu too

Not all pop singers can't sing tongue.gif
For me, there's a group of singers i like for their music only [BEG, SG Wannabe, Lee Soo Young, Nell], a group i like for their promos/shows only [SuJu, SNSD], and another that I like for both their personality and music [Epik High, DBSK, Se7en]

Octieu2005: Hahaha, Agreed.

I don't really think I have a liking for a certain genre, I just like music overall.
Even though I do love idol groups, such as SHiNee and SNSD, I still listen to some undergroud, like Lucite Rabbit.
As long as the song is catchy, I'll like it.

Anyway, I think you like idol music too. I'm telling from your Kwon Jiyong icon and Lies lyrics on your siggy. biggrin.gif

and you have a big bang avatar, eh? lol. jk.

but yeah, i agree with most of the people on here. it's just the song basically.
i personally love wondergirls and big bang. all other idol groups, i don't really care for.
but then again, i catch myself singing along to snsd's songs too.
i guess that's what idol groups are though. you know, catchy, popular songs and dances.
for the most part, i don't have a problem with idol groups.
i just wish that non-idol groups/artists would get more recognition.
i love brown eyed girls. epik high, 1tym, ftts, and a whole lot of other artists that aren't necessarily "hot" right now.

am i the only one that is annoyed by the dances nowadays?
where did actual, intense choreography go?
it's like every artist/group wants to have a catchy dance to all of their songs, ever since the "tell me" mania.
am i alone in this?
remember when artists actually danced their butts off onstage?

that's why i like taeyang, lol.

YOU'RE NOT ALONE! ^^

I like some of the idol stuff, but I really love the non-idol music too. The non-idol music present more REAL TALENT and good vocals. Like Nell smile.gif And Seo Taiji and so much more. Lol. The underground music is awesome smile.gif

But yeah, you're not alone smile.gif
The poppy-cute stuff is really ick sometimes.
And it's nice to get away from the wannabe "sexy stars" once in awhile.

trust me im with you, i love music with at least more depth then what a lot of the idol pop offers, but i won't say i don't listen to idol pop cause i do. But i really tend to go for musically strong music.

It depends on your purpose!

If you want something to just WATCH, like gameshow, idol groups are good choice.
If you need something to LISTEN, underground groups are wise choice.

Me too! I'm very ecletic. Nowadays I don't have any prejudice towards music... I listen to music depending on my mood and if I liked the songs or not. From non-idol groups to idol groups, from heavy metal to pop, from western to eastern music.

Of course there are bands and singers more talented than some idol groups...
Because after all, idol groups are made to entertain people (and make the company earn loooooots of money).
And they sure know how to entertain. While non-idol artists focus more in their talent than in other stuff...

I confess that besides my Backstreet Boys fangirling times (some years ago...), I was bored and annoyed by new pop music (ex.: NSYNC, Britney...and so on...).

So I was a bit prejudice towards popmusic and when I first got introduced to korean pop music I was bothered by the fact that the singers lip-sync a lot and that they were in a certain way 'manufactured' artists. But, with the time I got used to it...

and now I confess, that it's hard to resist the korean idol groups charms:

1--------- Their catchy songs
2--------- Their adorable, funny and charismatic personalities (ex.: Super Junior boys)
3--------- Their sweet voices (ex.: DBSK I got hooked by them because of their voices)

I would still prefer that they sing more live than lip-sync, and that they write and compose more of their songs, but I understand they can't do that because of their companies decisions.

totally agree with your points.
i wish that idol groups had more freedom in their music.
like when yoo bin from wg said that she wished that she could write her own raps 2-3 yrs from now.
you know, it's sad how she can't write her own stuff and has to wait 2 years for that to happen.

you're definitely not alone. the music industry today has changed so much. i don't necessarily hate idol groups, i just don't find their music appealing; it's not because they can't sing. i'll listen to it, but most of the time there are only but a select few that i like. as people, i don't have a problem with them, it's just my personal music tastes; the only idol group i actually really like is big bang, wondergirls are alright too. but 1tym, epik high, mc mong -- all of my favorite artists, don't get as much recognition or have as large of a fanbase, for the most part. and a lot of extremely talented singers, like wheesung, aren't as popular. the veterans in the kpop industry, although they have the most experience, just don't get as much fame as those young idol groups that are springing up everywhere. i'm not saying they don't get any recognition, popularity, or fame at all, just not as much as they deserve. sometimes it just gets tiring; it's hard to find good music to listen to nowdays. everyone is so caught up in the latest trends, like the techno-dance wave that every song has, and like jjaanngg said, those catchy dances. music that's orginal, and composed and written by the actual artist -- all that talent, is so rare now. i understand it's the company's decision to write and produce the songs for the artist, but that just makes me appreciate and have respect for the artists who actually DO go beyond what's expected and create their own. i prefer the ones who are hands-on with their music.

^ i do agree with this though. you have a good point.

-- i think people are getting confused between idol groups, mainstream artists, and genres. there's a difference.
i don't rely on a specific genre, i listen to any songs that i think are worth listening to.
idol groups aren't their own genre; the majority fall under pop.
i don't necessarily find songs made by most idol groups appealing, but there are plenty of other pop songs/artists i like.

Idol singers don't have their own style. As much as i love DBSG, i have to say i admire Clazziquai more. ppl say DBSG's so good at accapella but face the reality, they haven't sung any accapella for years. i can't even get why ppl still regard as a accapella/dance group. i enjoy listening to DBSG music but they have a lot of genetic songs, which i can never understand why they could be choosen to put into an album. Musician like Clazziquai or SG Wannabe're different. I really adore Horan for her work in Clazziquai, but she didn't stop there. this girl even created a new group with totally new style. or SG Wannabe, i'm not their fan, never been their fan but i admit they always have something new in their album. not much change but they seems to prepare very well for each album. I think most idol singers are controlled by their company. they depend on the company in everything. idol singers are TOO busy promoting, filming.... to have time preparing new album/single so that they have not choice but get the company to do it. all they have to do is go to the studio and record the songs, which have been choosen for them.

However, idol-music's so catchy LOL i don't like Tell Me so much (although i love WG, i don't know why Tell Me's so popular). i got annoyed to see ppl addicted to it but oneday i found myself singing along to it xD and seeing a performace with dance move is more entertaining than a ballad perf. i'm not stuck with one genre of music so... laugh.gif

I still say i love idols but you're definitely not alone. SG Wannabe had the best selling album last year xD

I used to enjoy listening to Roora, R.e.f, Turbo, Cool, Kim Gun Mo, Deux, Seo tai Ji and boys, Solid, Young Turks Club and such. I really miss that era because it was truly when kpop was at its prime. Finkl, SES, h.o.t, and sechskies, came afterwards and started the idol wave.
