Heyy everyone. ^^ Has anyone read the book Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell?

That's a book I'm planning to read for the summer, for A.P. English... there are a whole bunch of books to read, but this one gets me a lot of points for the class, so I'm hoping to get some reviews from some people who have read it. smile.gif

What's it about? How was it? Really long? Interesting? Boring eventually? hmm?? happy.gif

Please and thanks!

It's extremely long, but I loved it. =D Totally recommend it. ^-^ Although, if you have a short attention span, maybe you should pick something else?

Edit:

I just noticed your other questions. XD Haha. It's about a woman named Scarlett O'Hara. The beginning is pre-Civil War. She's a Southern belle, really popular among the guys and such. The book is mainly about Scarlett's struggles with the troubles that fall on the South during and after the Civil War as well as her unrequited love for a man named Ashley and her relationship with Rhett Butler. There's a movie based on this book, too, with Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh.

Hope that helped. =D

What are other books that you can read? maybe give us the full list and we can tell u which one is the best.

However Gone with the wind is definitely not boring. Its very very long but I think its a perfect summer read, the feel is just like it! lol. well if you have time restriction then i dunno o_o but i read it when i was around 12 and it held my interest even then so I dont think you will get bored. there are a lot of things goin on in the book and yeah, i liked it ^^

AMAZING i could not put it down
it is also a bit of a chick lit, so an extremely fast read despite the size

EDIT

don't watch the movie before you read the book
although the movie is amazing, the book is a 100x better
it is definitely not boring, and i was sad to see it end

watched the movie when I was 10; read the book when I was 13.

both media for me are equally the same, in terms that I dont prefer one over the other. but since you're doing this for class, read the novel first. then, try to watch the movie to pick out some major themes. i believe the film was able to showcase what the novel was trying to impart.

for discussion points, the obvious themes would be political issues [ie. Civil war], social issues, gender issues [most specifically, a woman's role/life/struggles in that era]. then you can actually tie in all those to discuss how those issues affect love/marriage, etc. just some suggestions. tongue.gif

ps. "frankly my dear, i dont give a damn!" *sniff, sniff* that very last scene of Scarlett's silhoutte in the movie, waiting by the tree, made me cry. tears.gif

like everyone else said, it is indeed a very long book but definitely enjoyable as well.
I first read the book when I was 12-13 and I felt in love.
There were moments of tears while reading that book.

I honestly would have loved for a summer book like Gone with the Wind.

I had the boring ones.

I saw the movie as a teenager and read the book many years later. Both are great, real classics. The theme that stood out for me is that of a courageous, gutsy and optimistic woman (who went through great trials and tribulations) who never says die, for "there is always tomorrow". Very uplifting.

The movie is well made, altho its kind of long, I enjoyed it. Its very interesting and there are many themes they talk about during that time.
