Hey guys I found this forum by googling info about File Hosting and I found your list but I am kind of looking for the opposite kind of site as everyone else. Generally single expiration downloads are bad and everyone wants no expiration but I have a very small business that sells bits of downloadable content and I would love if there was a way to send them a link and have it expire right then and there so the link couldn't be easily passed around.

Anyone know of a free/very low cost site that does this or have any other ideas?

Keep in mind they can just re upload the file to rapidshare

I immediately think of shady Ebay sellers pushing freely available files or information to unsuspecting bidders.

Optimistically... if you want to start a business, wouldn't it look better if you hosted it yourself? That way you can give a user access to say, a FTP then change/delete the password when they are done.

Another option is a host which lets you delete the file with a link they provide after you upload the file. I think evilshare provides a delete link.

Yes I agree that they could just re upload it, there really is no way for me to totally stop someone from doing it but to at least deter them is my goal because re uploading it is a lot bigger step than just copy/pasting a link to someone.

I am not doing anything shady, I am creating something myself from scratch and attempting to sell it so it is not like that.

And in re: to why I dont host it, like I said this is a very small 'business' if you even want to call it that and I only plan to make maybe 1-10 sales tops a month and I have a domain name with free hosting so I am trying to be as low budget as possible because I will not make enough money to sustain paying for the extra bandwith.

Yea being able to delete the link would be a decent compromise but wouldn't it be hard to tell if the person had downloaded it or not? Perhaps if there was some sort of stats for the download and I could delete after the first one. I will check that site out,

Maybe someone else knows of a site that does the single download expiration?

thx for the answers tho I appreciate it

Actually, after looking at EvilShare, they have the exact option I am looking for!

Thank you it looks like this will be perfect to keep me low budget.

I don't think such a service exists. Small business or not, your best bet is still to host it yourself. A cheap shared hosting account for a couple of bucks a month ($2-$5) should be suffice for 1-10 downloads a month.

Yousendit.com is the closest as it gets.

I did see a site that did this, but I didn't bookmark it and it was couple weeks ago. It allowed you to set the time of expiration and all that stuff.
