i was just wondering about some of your guys own experiences with swimming. Whats the most weight youve lost if it does work?
its a great way to stay fit but but being fit doesnt mean you have to lose weight. =) thanks

doesn't build much muscle unless you were skinny to begin with.
makes for great cardio exercise that works out the entire body.
you'll lose a lot of weight if you swim everyday, but if you swim in cold water, you'll get a thin layer of fat over your body.
it wont hide a 6 pack or anything, but it does give a slight smoothening effect

muscle density, perhaps, but i definitely wouldn't say a lot of muscle mass. most swimmers are relatively slim/slender.

if anything, it makes you gain weight from the muscle mass that you gain.
& for girls- it makes you look very square and manly. it built up my arms, and once I stopped swimming, my arms are just .... big.
idk. that's just me.

yeah that's exactly what had happened to me as well lol =.="
i eat like a famished pig after every training session @__@ oh and your muscles get toned pretty nicely which was awesome.
and now that i've quit swimming competively...i still eat the way i used to and i'm getting fatter everyday since those muscles are turning into flab =DD *flexes flabby arms*

If you can't swim, you can try water jogging.

use your legs more than your arms. More Leg= Less muscle on arms, nice toned legs and great abs. I did that for a whole summer :-)
I'm not swimming this whole summer to lose weight though, I'm trying to get taller, lol.

hello world.

It helped ME lose weight, I used to be REALLLYYY fat as a kid, but over time, fat turned into muscle and I'm not fat... lol
Swimming tones your entire body, unlike other activities and sports that tone certain areas.

It's just that some people are afraid to go swimming because they either have a pot belly or don't have the nice curvatures a woman is supposed to have.
But getting back to swimming, I feel very exhausted and happy after swimming. I also tend to feel very hungry after taking a dip in either the ocean or a swimming pool. You tend to not see the sweat because you're in water. But you do tend to perspire while swimming, if you do a rigorous job of swimming properly.

for the past 3 or 4 years, every summer my parents would force me to join my community swim team.. and omg, >< it was the most freaking tiring thing ever. probably cause i just naturally suck at swimming...
like i don't understand how i survived those hour long daily practices for all those summer months.
anyway, from my observations, i didn't lose or gain weight, i didn't gain any significant amount of muscle, and i basically just suffered from the exercise.
it's probably just me though o_o
i personally think running or working out is better..
