The ‘Iconic Love Story’ for those who wish to stay young at heart forever!
‘Boys over Flowers’ is the highly anticipated remake of the famous Japanese comic book series. Jan-di, the Heroine, is the poor but bright girl who has a strong sense of justice and full of vitality. She transfers to an exclusive high school where only the rich go. In there, she encounters with the four rich and quirky boys and experiences love and friendship.
The storyline illustrates the supreme fantasy that a drama can bring out the most. Each of us probably has an experience of admiring or dreaming of something. The drama ‘Boys over Flowers’ is the concentration of the admirations.

Lee Min Ho as Gu Jun Pyo (originally Domyoji Tsukasa)

Gu Jun-pyo is the leader of F4 and heir to the global business enterprise of Shinhwa Group. His trademark is his curly hair. He is used to doing whatever he wants whenever he wants and often offends others with his aggressively direct personality. However, under his tough exterior Jun-pyo is a pure-hearted young boy. Gu Jun-pyo was raised by the employees of his parents’ company, since his parents didn’t have time for him, so, naturally, he is attracted by the warmth of Jan-di’s normal family. Although he dismisses Jan-di at first because she is not rich, he ends up falling head over heels for her charming bright personality.

Kim Hyun Joong (SS501) as Yun Ji Hu (originally Hanazawa Rui)

Yun Ji-hu is the most handsome member of F4 and the grandson of a former Korean president. When he was five years old, he was the sole survivor of a car accident that killed both his parents, and as a result he became withdrawn and anti-social. However when he meets his first love, Seo-hyeon, she helps him get over his difficulties. After meeting Jan-di on the staircase, Yun Ji-hu also becomes her knight in shining armor and helps her out whenever she needs it. This character likes to be alone and has a bit of a strange personality. Yun Ji-hu has a great love and talent for music, and is set to become the leader of the Suam Cultural Foundation, Suam Art Center, and Suam Orchestra.

Kim Beom as So Yi Jeong (originally Nishikado Sojiro)

Yi Jeong’s father is Korea’s most famous Master of Arts. When Yi Jeong’s older brother leaves the family, Yi Jeong suddenly becomes the heir to Korea’s largest private museum, Woo Song. He is popular with girls due to his gentle manners and clean-shaven appearance. After being hurt by his first love he turns into a bit of a playboy, but then he starts to show an interest for Jan-di’s friend Ga-eul. Cold and uncompromising at first, Yi Jeong is in fact a warm character at heart.

Kim Jun (T-Max) as Song Wu Bin (originally Mimasaka Akira)

For many generations, Song Wu-bin’s family has been the leaders of the criminal organization, Ilsim, and he is the heir to Ilsim Construction. Ilsim has extensive networks and a great ability in manipulating cash flows, which even the Shinhwa Group cannot ignore. Whenever his fellow F4 members are in trouble, Song Wu-bin makes a call to his large network of connections so that the problem is quickly taken care of. Song Wu-bin has an innate sense of finances and is also a great fighter. Even though he is still young, Song Wu-bin already displays a charisma well fitting for a boss of the underworld.

Gu Hye Seon as Geum Jandi (originally Makino Tsukushi)

Geum Jan-di is a normal schoolgirl whose family manages a small dry cleaning business. One day she is selected to join the prestigious Shinhwa High School, where she joins the swim team. Unable to stand the nagging of her parents, Jan-di decides to attend Shinhwa High School, but when she starts she is tagged with the F4’s red card and has to endure teasing and bullying from them and the other students. However, displaying her strong, bright personality, Jan-di stands up to F4 and the entire student group. At first she begins to fall for F4’s Yun Ji-hu, but then the leader of F4 and heir to the Shinhwa business conglomerate, Gu Jun-pyo, openly professes his love for her in front of the school, and she becomes the envy of all the girls. Geum Jan-di is an optimistic and honorable girl who is never dazzled by financial wealth or social status. Even after she joins Shinwa High School she remains true to her ideals.

I was so impressed by Hanazawa Rui starred by Oguri Shun in Japanese version. Hana Yori dango final (movie) is also coming at the end of this June.

I also liked Oguri Shun in the Japanese version. Throughout the whole series I was like Noooo the main couple should be rui and the girl! grrr. Lol~
But I don't think it's about hyunjoong defeating Oguri Shun or not, in remakes I think it's important to bring some kind of new element so it's not just the same drama with different people. Like how the actors actresses portray the feelings of the people in the manga.

Yeah, that's why it's abit difficult to accept a new "Rui" by a Korean actor, i mean Kim Hyun Joong. This is just a remake of na outstanding TV series in Japan for several years. I really doubt about its success.

I can see her as a Makino, she'd be real cute.

But I think her image is too mature to become "innocent Makino". Recently i don't see any new actress that best suits this character

[마이데일리 = 김미영 기자] SS501 김현중이 드라마 ‘꽃보다 남자’ 한국판의 캐스팅에 대해 조심스런 입장을 밝혔다.

김현중 소속사의 한 관계자는 21일 “미팅을 갖고 제작진과 함께 긍정적인 방향을 검토하고 있었지만 아직 정해진 것은 없다”고 밝혔다.

김현중은 일본의 동명 인기 만화를 원작으로 한 드라마로 이미 대만에서는 큰 인기를 누렸던 작품이다. 최근 우리나라에도 한국판 ‘꽃보다 남자’가 제작된다는 소식이 알려지면서 캐스팅에 관심이 쏠렸다.

꽃미남 이미지로 많은 여성팬들을 확보하고 있는 김현중은 순애보 사랑을 간직한 인물 루이 역에 대한 제의를 받은 상태. 하지만 촬영 일정과 SS501의 스케줄이 겹치는 관계로 조율 중인 상황이다.

이 관계자는 “스케줄을 맞추면서 의논을 하던 찰나에 캐스팅 기사가 확정된 것처럼 나가서 조금 당황스럽다”고 덧붙였다.

김현중은 현재 MBC ‘일요일 일요일 밤에’의 화제 코너 ‘우리 결혼했어요’에서 연상의 황보와 함께 가상 부부로 호흡을 맞추면서 10대는 물론 20~30대의 여성에게도 사랑을 받고 있다.

well i am very excited about this drama! i loved meteor garden and HYD =]

i am willing to give kim hyun joong a chance. he seems like the gentle character that rui is. even if he doesn't match up to shun, he will have his own charm that will make him a good rui.

lol about the idea of having a member from each boyband to cast as F4 (tvxq, big bang, suju, etc), it's a witty idea sure, and will catch a lot of ratings, but can fangirls stand watching their favorite member kiss the main girl?!?! lol. personally... it would kill me to see jaejoong kiss another girl lol.

there are some people who want TOP to be domyoji and i think his attitude kind of matches, as far as i can tell from his performance in "i am sam", both kind of tough exterior, but I feel like TOP doesn't give the same feel for domyoji because he seems too young. but that's just my opinion... i personally think TOP is pretty good =]

for female lead... i think eunhye might deliver a good performance judging by goong and coffee prince, like that kind of standing up for herself personality, and some people suggested lee yeonhee, and altho she is great, i see her more of an innocent and gentle female character, and i don't know much about han hyo joo, i only saw her in spring waltz and she was a gentle character in that one as well.

they did say new faces for the cast? i can't wait to see the outcomes! but i know that F4 must be really pretty boys =] the waiting will kill me! lol

SS501 member Kim Hyun Joong was casted as the F4 member Hanazawa Rui in the Korean version of Hana Yori Dango, which is scheduled to be broadcast via KBS 2TV in the first half of 2009. The Korean name for Rui has not been set yet.

This will be the third time the Japanese manga will be turned into a drama series. The first one was a Taiwanese version, which was aired in 2001, and the other was a Japanese one, which was broadcast in 2005.

According to an official from Group Eight, the production house in-charge of the drama, Kim Hyun Joong was selected to play Rui because he was deemed suited for the character. The decision was based from his performance in the MBC program “We’re Married,” where Kim Hyun Joong is being coupled with singer Hwangbo.

Meanwhile, at the moment, the 3 actors who will play the other members of F4 are yet to be finalized.

but you know, think of it a different way... what's wrong with casting from idol groups?! weren't the casts from Goong 1 kinda inexperienced in acting field as well?! but they did make it big, right?! so... what's the difference with casting from idol groups who are also kinda inexperienced in acting field?! Give them a chance!

it gave me a "woah" reaction when i read this too... but i'm still anticipating for it ... same with the rest of the casting...


for main actress, I can see Makino in either Lee Yeon Hee or Park Shin Hye... if we also talk about girl idol group, I can get the Makino feelings from either Tae Yeon, Yoon A (SNSD), Seung Yeon (KARA), or Yoo Bin (WG)... xD idk y... it's just my gut feeling xD haha

btw the idea of him being chosen based on his We Got Married performance is kinda silly, because though it's a fake reality and it requires acting as a married couple, it his cute personality all along. Kinda like saying he's faking himself too.


EDIT: I want to clear a point here... at least mine, I'm not judging HJ, I'm just saying that it's shocking because i didn't expect the casting to be in this direction. I'm not against boy bands, we've seen so many of them doing a great job in most dramas. it's just a friendly opinion sharing that's all.

to see new actors cast in this drama. However, i haven't seen him act yet, so i shouldn't be

Oguri Shun in the Japanese version really made me fall in love with Rui, hopefully Hyun Joong won't disppoint.

Well this is interesting casting so far! HJ as Rui. Love the guy and willing to give him a shot but let's hope the PD actually chose him because he has some serious acting chops to show and not basing it entirely on LGM.
