Planet B-boy: Korea

This forum needs a bboy section because the Koreans are simply the best at breakdancing. And breakdancing, you could say, is pop. culture.

nah, korea is one of the best in the world. if you look at the Battle of the Year competitions which is like the world cup of bboying they've been going back and forth with France for the championship. Korea won in 2007,2005,2004, and 2002. USA hasn't won this competition since 1998, but they are still considered one of the elite countries of bboying. others are korea, france, and japan.

i don't think you can claim they're the best.
just one of the most competitive countries and has risen up pretty quickly.

bboy was unknown in korea
then out of nowhere no one could touch them when it came to bboy

korea's bboy is exponential
literally and figuratively

they are the world's best in technical.

in terms of originality, style, fluidity of movements.... there are others breaking crews that are on par with them or better.

but technique goes a long way

Why do people insist on labeling breakdancers by race??

There are good breakdancers from korea, usa, etc etc

and I bet half the people talking about "koreans are the best breakdancers"
don't know a thing about breakdancing and only limit themselves to korean break dancers

Well maybe they like to label it like that because its easier.

Yeah sure it's true that the worlds best breakdancers are Korean.

But it's just like the olympics, holy crap those koreans are amazing at speed skating. Last winter games I think a korean dude rocked the competition by a picking up a few gold medals in speed skating. So we label Korea as having the best speed skaters because the guy that raced for Korea represented the country for the Olympics.

Same way as these breakdancers are representing Korea. I think the people saying that Korean's are the best breakdancers are the ones basing everything off of world competitions and nothing more. The same way we label whoever country won a certain event in the olympics numerous amounts of times. For example, Canadian's have the best hockey players. smile.gif There are good hockey players from Sweden, Russia, America, etc, but by far through the history of hockey Canada has had the best hockey players.

Well i wouldnt say best but since 2001 they have been upping the game in move wise. But you forget bboying isnt pop culture, korea just made it that way. But Bboying been going back since even the late 70s when people in ny were figuring out top rock and another sector was figuring down rock. Kool Herc had figured out "breaks" so if you want to say most innovated and contributed the most would be USA hands down and i just named the very beginning. Thats why crews like rivers and even last 4 one have been going back to the roots and learning what they missed out before when they first came out to the bboy community. There can never be a best since there is so many sections of bboying that if you get down to the bottom of it theres no one at #1.

only some of them are the best.
they do have the i guess "natural ability" flow and the passion for breakdancing
it's enjoyable watching them

totally loving POPPING HYUN JOON as most dancers would know him.

Thank u!

People need to look outside of competetions
I see bboys on the streets that will give competetors a run for their money
