Hey, i'm posting this for a friend of mine who is having trouble with the web... anyways,
who is planning to major in political science? And also what kind of career can u find for pol sci majors?
And last thing she wanted to ask is, what is the recommended GPA to transfer to a UC for this major? She currently has a 2.9
and wanted to know if she even has a chance to transfer into any UC's at all.
Is this major competitive?

1. I am majoring in Political Science. Right now I'm still going pre-dental, where I'm taking the required courses to get into Dental School. Although, I'm somewhat considering going to Law School. You can major in political science to get into law school. It helps, but hey you can actually go into law school with any major (or so I've heard from the law school thread here). If you want to be a political science teacher, hey that could work too. Although you'll still have to go to graduate school for that. You can also go into business since political science is somewhat of a business major, as I've heard. I'm still researching other things as well, but it looks nice on your record if you ever want to apply to work for the government.
It depends on the UC that she's transferring to. Some UCs are much more competitive. Although, I am currently attending UCSD with a major in Political Science and I would say that the PS department is strong and consists of a lot of knowledgeable professors. If she wants to attend UCSD, she needs to figure out how to get into any UC in the first place -- that's the hardest part. BTW UCLA has a law school.
I'm really thankful that you're alive. The news about you is my reason for living. We should meet at least once while living. No matter what you're doing be healthy and always live happily. For you being born, for meeting you... I'm so thankful.

i intended on majoring in ps when i entered university. but it didn't turn out the way i expected it to, and i realized i wasn't particularly adept at it so i majored in communications and new media instead.
however, i do have friends who are majoring/planning on majoring in ps. from what i have heard, ps majors tend to be interested in entering the civil service, working for governmental agencies/ministries such as that of foreign affairs, etc. nonetheless, we graduate with a general arts degree and can go into basically any job that does not require specialization, e.g. human resources, etc. (idk how applicable this is to universities in the states- i'm from a university in singapore, but i hope i've helped!)

i'm a political science major at a csu. i originally majored in PLSI because i loved learning about the government (yah, yah i know that sounds dorky but it's true). there are a lot of different ways you can go with it. as mentioned above by livingdeaddoll. Civil service is one way to go such as working in an embassy (which my prof has said most likely means processing visas) and agencies. You can teach, work in political offices, etc. Research is also a consideration (that's what i really want to do). plsi is somewhat competitive at csu fresno. i recommend a minor or a double major to keep on top of the rest. i even met someone who was a freaking triple major!!!!

for the uc's there are guaranteed transfer agreements if she's transferring from a california community college. but the uc's better known for the major are ucb and ucla which are both highly competitive and a 2.9 gpa is not going to cut it. but for the other uc's idk what the min gpa it is to sign a tag agreement but it isnt that much of a stretch nor is it as competitive as those 2 uc's which do not have agreements. im a poli sci major who plans to have another major or minor in history or econ who's transferring to ucd in the fall.

no u dont NEED a tag to transfer but it makes things way more easier cause then u'll be guaranteed a spot in the year ur applying. u know wat i mean? and tags dont depend on major, igetc does though which is what u need to complete ge classes before transferring to better ur chances supposedly.
when is she planning to transfer?
usually tag agreements are signed sometime in early in the fall school term like sept i think it was for the next fall term u plan on applying to. i.e. getting ur tag in sept 2008 so u can apply to uc for fall 09 in nov.
this should help you.

Yay Political Science majors!
PS is a great major to prepare you for Law School, Business, Public Service, Journalism, and just living in the real world..I'm still surveying my career options at this point but I'm sure I'll be pretty happy with whatever I choose. I'm not sure about the GPA/Transfer question, sorry >.<
