I'm in this program in my school where I'm going to be living at a college for 6 weeks. Pretty much experiencing college life. Having long hours of classes, live in dorms, eat college food etc.

I have to take an elective which is going to be 3-4 hours each day. I want to lose my belly or get it down a little, possibly a smaller waist?

My choices are dance and yoga... So.... which one would be better to go for? Reminder I will be in this class for 3-4 hours EACH day for 6 weekish?

ph34r.gif My friends says to do yoga you must have muscles and it's very hard. So they adviced me to go with dance.

But in dances, we will be switching from hiphop, tango, salsa and a bunch of other dances...

tongue.gif Please help me choose ^____^

This will be my first time for both.

I take yoga. The first time you do it is the hardest! It gets easier

i say whichever you think is the most fun.
it'd be good to have some dance experience
(if you really want to be a dancer, and if its free? then i suggest dance. dancing costs a lot.)
yoga...i haven't done yoga. or dance, as a matter of fact, but yoga is kind of more long term.
yoga is more relaxing.
but i think dance will probably help you lose more, because its cardio.

i dont know what im talking about. don't take everything i say seriously.

actually, both are considered types of cardio, so either will help you lose weight.

when i first took a yoga class, it was kind of hard. the moves look simple enough but you switch from one position to another to another and then repeat the whole cycle 3 or five times in a row so it really raises your heart rate. totally not as relaxing as i thought it would be. you eventually build strength over time and the moves get easier, and it actually does make you feel better because somehow meditating and focusing on your breathing really clears your mind.

but to me dance class seems more fun. i took a tap dancing class in college and it was so much fun. really tiring, but fun. and you get to interact with other people in the class whereas yoga is pretty much focusing on you and you alone. plus i feel like i sweat more during dance class, which makes me feel like i'm working harder. sweatingbullets.gif it's up to u, everyone has their own preference.

I say to take yoga. smile.gif Because you'll probably endure a lot of stress during your college year, yoga really helps to minimize its effects on your body. You'll feel more relaxed. Dancing sounds fun too. Good luck!

idk, it might not be the same for you too since everyone's different, but i heard that dancing gives you a lot of leg muscles o_o

I'm a bit biased, but I think you should take a dance class haha.

It kind of depends on the type of yoga. I've never tried power yoga, but the stretching yoga... eh, a little boring and slow in my opinion. And the music makes you sleep xD There's a 'resting' period too. I forgot what it's called, but when I did it at this summer dance intensive as a warmup every morning, we would lie down after each session and 'relax'. Oh! I think it's called deep relaxation haha.

Dancing does increase your calf muscles, but it should get rid of belly fat too because it engages your core. I'm not a yoga expert, but I don't know if they do that as well. It's just, with dancing, you'll get to experience different types of dancing. What a good opportunity because dance classes are a tad expensive haha.

For me, I can't stand yoga class cause of the silent. I laugh at everything, so I would choose dance class. It's more fun, and you sweat a lot from dancing too much. I know yoga, you don't sweat much o___O unless you were doing the aerobic class XD that's hardcore!! >___<;; yoga never relieved me from stress because i can't stand and watch other people doing yoga cause it just makes me laugh and sometimes i feel paranoid that i might fart really loud XDDDDDD well sometimes they put on relaxing music, but omg... just seeing them move with yoga lesson i just laugh so much XDDDDDDDDDDD how i know about this? cause i tried it before XDD

i choose dance classes too.. I wish that I can enter any dance class.. but, i guess, creating your won dancing steps is better.. and, i like it that way... just let your body follow the music.

Don't think yoga makes you lose weight but it's good for mental health, relieves stress and flexibility.
Dance classes where you'll be switching from hiphop, tango, salsa definitely increases your heart rate, activates your sweat glands, contracting all of your body's muscles so I'd go to the dance classes. (:

In the end, it's your personal choice and preference.

Take dance! All the different types will help to slim down all parts of your body. Its more fun than yoga in my opinion too, no offense to yoga.

dance sounds fun!
but from what i heard, yoga is more effective on losing weight and toning muscles.

i would go with dance; 3-4 hrs of yoga EVERYDAY sounds extremely brutal. dance is fun and it improves ur figure too ^.^

dance class will make you lose weight since you're doing cardio. yoga's fun, but it only tones.

i haven't taken yoga but from what it sounds like, it's relaxing but hard.
take dancing if you wanna move a lot. yoga seems like a class for patient people.

^ agree.

I don't know, but I think I'll be real bored if I have to do yoga for 3-4 hours a day, 6 days a week. Depends on you!
If you're the kind that is like hyperactive/cannot sit still for long, and finds working out a way to de-stress, then dance.
but if you're the quiet, take-it-slow-and-steady kind, go for yoga. smile.gif
