Stress = Delayed Period? To what extent does your period delay due to stress?

I haven't been on much because lately, I've been going through a lot of changing factors; such as dealing with a new lifestyle, my job and education, my boyfriend and family. But here's the reason why I've posted this topic:
I was expecting my period on June 1st, but it has been delayed and I still don't have it yet. My last period was May 1st, but it was delayed a few days from the previous month, which was supposed to be around April 26th.
I am fairly worried, because I know that if your menstrual cycle is irregular, it's your body's way of signalling that something is quite possibly wrong. I am sexually active, so I was tested a few days ago for any signs of pregnancy at a clinic. Test results came out negative.
So I was wondering, what are the contributing factors to a delayed period? And how long can stress be the factor that's causing the delays?
Thanks in advance, because my life is so hectic, I don't know what else to do.

some factors that contribute to late, or missed periods are stress and diet.

Alwaysssssss happens to me.
& I get extra worried because I'm sexually active also.
So I take the tests & they come out negative.
So it's a relief.
But still, its late.
The last couple months (about 8 months), I've never been "on-time" when I expected it.
I'm still waiting to see if THIS month's will be on time.
Yesterday, I was EXTRA sensitive & b1tchy.
I got my period on May 23rd, so hopefully I'll get mine soon cus its already the 25th >_<
Or else I'm gonna have to test again, so I stop worrying.

But really, I mean menstruating. :]
Yes, stress factor is huge with your hormones- even HGH (human growth hormone).

My period is never regular, but when I am very stressed, it gets delayed up to 3-4 months.
Or I will have a prolonged (very light) period for 2 weeks.

That happens to me all the time.
I have insomnia and my medication slows down my period EVEN MORE.
I'm already 3 days late
But I'm feeling the symptoms & my back hurts ];

I never knew that your period can delay up to months due to stress.. now I'm less worried now, but still! I still haven't gotten my period... hope it is the stress.

I haven't met anyone yet that hasn't had theirs in FIVE MONTHS.
And I'm pretty young too and so not sexually active.
But yeah. My period's always been really irregular so this is normal for me? =/

I would skip for about 2 or 3 months, and then it would be regular again, irregular, regular etc.
I haven't gone to see a gyno yet, but i'm planning on it..
I researched a bit about this, and the irregular/delayed menstrual cycles are due to a condition called hypothalamic amenorrhea
For most cases, it's caused by (as you guys already know) stress
but sometimes it can be due to rapid weight loss, strenuous exercise routines, eating disorders etc.
these factors can affect the hormones produced in your hypothalamus (a region of your brain)
and in turn affect your cycle.
I think it can be easily treated through healthy eating, etc.. but just in case, go check up with your gyno regularly~
I'm planning on doing that~

Same here -.- i mean, i'm kinda used to my period coming late
but it scares me. Like the past few months i've been stressing
a lot because of the bf =\ and this month since things
cooled down, i have terrible cramps -.-

A few months ago, I switched schools from a French to an American school so I stressed out like crazy. The education programs are totally different.
I had to sleep late to finish hwk, like at 12 and wake up early at 6 to go to school.
During those days, my period went crazy as well. I got it 2 to 3 times per month. Sometimes no period at all for a month.
I was worried and went to the doctor.
She said that I just have to eat right (don't skip any meal, eat at a specific time daily), sleep more (8 hours), drink a lot of water and relax.

in the marine corps training for females, females usually don't have their period for the entire 3 months due to physical and emotion stress.
