well this largely differs depending on opinion
as you can tell from the thread that asks about singers with voices you dislike

to me, there are lots of mixes, i'll take something simple

dbsk
jae joong, chang min - weak dancers, but popular voices
u-know - weak singer, but strong dancer
yoochun - weak dancer, but good at composing

big bang
g-dragon - not that good at dancing, good at composing
top - not so good at singing, but good at rapping and beatboxing

and super junior
shiwon - not so good singer, good dancing
shin dong - not that good at singing, good dancing
ryeowook - good singer, weak dancer
kibum - not so good at singing

there's more but i'll leave it there

so to me there's lots of mixing
i guess all this mixing gives a balance

As much as I love DBSK, I'm gonna have to agree with tempii.

Another thing I want to add is that I think Daesung and Seungri are okay singers but their dancing isn't up to Taeyang's.
Um.. as for Wondergirls, SoHee. Weak singing but cute dancing!

Mixes are needed. Everyone can't be perfect. :]

We hardly see good-all-around solo artists for the reason that not many people are good at all things. So the group is created to compensate individual weak points. Some groups that contain only the members great at only singing or only dancing would have the narrower groups of fans, so they are less popular. It's jus simple logic.

Most successful groups would have: the great singer(s) who can dance. The great dancer(s) who can sing. The borderline(s) who can do well in both, but not great.

Of course there'll be some groups that are better than a standard and become a phenomenon.

BTW, I agree with the list of tempii above. However, just because I'm a Yunho's fan wub.gif , I must say he sings so good at the fast songs live. He sings better when he dances. Although his voice is too soft for powerful ballads. His voice is good at the soft ballad like Forever Love. (ke ke forgive me. I'm done defending my fave.) Many people thinks that Changmin is not as good as Junsu and Jaejoong. The point is he doesn't train himself to be the lead singers, but the way he sings are strong and can go so wide range in the same verse. A secret weapon of DBSK, just incase you get bored of JJ and Junsu's styles.

Well, Junsu is very well-rounded performer. I think his dancing is much cooler than Yunho and his voice is so amazing....stage presence is awesome...
i think when he will go solo he will be successful....

whoo~
I think all group are in mixed of both musically and dancically(? XD) talented. No one is perfect though, after all they are human... I love DBSk and suju..! i have to agree with tempii too... every member in a group is excel in one area and it makes up for the area that they are lacked...but..... i think Junsu is an all-rounder; sing beautifully and can dance as good as yunho (yunho a lil' bit better though). Well, all members contributes some things here and there and that what makes them 'perfect'. Okie dokie.it just my piece of mind.=]

Since all the comments above were focused on TVXQ,
let me give my two cents on SHINHWA <3

Eric: Great Rapping, Weak Vocals, Great Stage Presence
Minwoo: Awesome Vocals, Awesome Dancing, Powerful Stage Presence
Dongwan: Awesome Vocals, Decent Dancing, Great Stage Presence
Hyesung: Awesome Vocals, Weak Dancing, Great Stage Presence
JunJin: Decent Vocals, Awesome Dancing, Great Stage Presence
Andy: Weak Vocals, Decent Rapping, Great Stage Presence

** All of the 6 members bring positive influence to the whole group. A balance is what is needed! happy.gif

+) And I must say, even though they are at their 10th year mark, they are still getting better as individuals!
They are focusing on becoming better singers, actors, dancers, etc. HOORAY SHINHWA <3
heaven knows what you've been through, so much pain
even though you can't see me, i'm not far away

But he can't do as much as DBSG have been doing.

Solo artist'll find it harder to succeed than a group with good-looking guys/girls who can dance and sing. On the other hand, one company has a lot of trainees but only some of them can sing or dance really well, and hardly anyone is well-rounded. what's better than putting all of them into a group, so that everyone can promote their ability and improve his/her weakness at the same time (some can go acting, MC-ing.... to gain popularity). It's more economical too xD it'd cost much more to making 5 debut albums for 5 solo artists than only one for a 5-guy-group. and if you notice, groups tend to donamite album sales chart (SG Wannabe, Epik High, DBSG, Super Junior, Big Bang or even group member such as Taeyang, Shin Hyesung, Kim Dongwan....). groups are never old-fashined in Korea (or maybe Asia LOL).

IMO, much as i adore Junsu and Jaejoong's voice, i prefer to listen to the whole group <3.

Sorry, this's just my two cents. i'm not sure i get your point right.

Agree with tempii. just add that Yunho's the leader LOL i always regard that the leader in a group is as important as the main vocalist xD

i've actually a different perspective now. before, ive always thought that Yunho's the weakest singer. but having the opportunity to listen and see them perform live, my opinion of him has changed. perhaps he's 'weak' in terms of belting a note like JJ or Junsu; but he can hold a note if needed. also, Yunho can control his voice very well [again, in terms of the breathing in between. JJ takes really sharp breaths]. His mellow tone is also so soothing to the ears. i'm not knowledgeable in music so these are all just based on observation.

also, after the T concert, i vow to praise Yunho's voice whenever I can. I was THAT impressed with him!

Hands down, DBSK are the best live performers, and I am NOT being biased. It's a fact, and if you compare them to other artists, you'll see the difference. Their performanes are always powerful, both in terms of performance (dancing, stage presence) and vocals. Just watch their live concerts (T and Five in the Black). And yes, I've stated this before, all of the DBSK are good singers, Yunho and Yoochun may not have the best vocals in the group, but they can definately sing and dance live very well. And yes, watch the T concert, they sang 24 live songs with strenuous dancing and pwned with Love in the Ice at the end. You don't have to be a fan to have great respect for these guys.

agreed!seriously not being bias or anything. after watching their 5 in the black cons. and the T cons. i was just blown away blink.gif .i've seen in other threads abt YC ,YH N CM not having the best of vocals but to me they have their own strength that sets them apart and makes them a part of dbsk.<3

i'll have to agree with tempii if we are comparing the boys against each other!
BUT.. compaired to other bands.. i guess EACH OF THEM can hold it up against other bands!
why?
because:

3 of them might be considered weaker than Yunho in dancing but they certainly dances well! .... but personally.. i prefer junsu's moves than yunho! yunho is great but his moves are way big.. but junsu is slick and graceful...
not all can belt like jj and minnie... but junsu and yunho and yoochun have Toho/DBSK songs where in they belted really impressively!
yoochun is a very good composer.. but all of them have been writing and composing songs.. some collaborations too

their SOLO performances have been proven already... you'll see that in their concerts.
they also have SOLO SINGLES which all landed in the top 5 of Oricon Charts.

oh! and i almost forgot... this is what made me fall in love with them...
their musicality is so rich that they could sing:
pop dance... (both fast and medium speed)
ballad
rock (hard rock too)
r&b
techno
contempory jazz
slow rock
disco

even a capella
and reggae
and they can sing them all LIVE!!

if we talk about well-rounded artists... well... in my opinion...
these boys are one of the best!
and i think their success could attest to that!

EDIT:
^
^
^
i agree with those two before me!!!

I don't see the point of making such a thread.
