I don't know if I'm posting at the right place but..
How do you get a permit?
First off I have NO IDEA about cars. So obviously I'm going to take classes, but I don't know where to start. I live in San Jose.

I heard you have to get a pink slip first, what is that?
then a Permit, then a lisence.
How much does it cost? Link? Do i have to buy a car first? Really, I have no idea, but I want to drive D;
I'm 15 and a half. I can pay for the price, but i'm still looking for a cheap place. ( I work )

Use Google next time...California DMV and a pink slip is a document showing owner ship of a vehicle. And it's not a wise decision to get a car right away, because you need your parents with you.

You need drivers edumacation and you get a blue or pink slip which tells you that you have learned safety stuff and about the road...
After that you can go to the DMV and get the paperwork and fill it out and then you can take the written test to get a permit.....
Once you pass the exam you get a permit and you have to do wait 6 months practicing driving and 6 hours have to be with an instructor.....
Once all thats done you can take the test and get your provisional license... and you dont have to go through all this instructor crap once youre 17.5

All I did was pay $65 to this guy and i got 30hours of driving edumacation in 3hours sleeping through very old driving videos and a week later took the written test half asleep. hahah

Well put. You don't need to own a car to get a permit or a driver's license, but you will need one to take the driving test and practice which I'm sure your parents should be able to help you out with.

Read through the link S13xFLYxBY posted. Everything you need to know if you have questions about the process.

you have to take driver's education and complete it to get a slip. and then you have to enroll in driver's training to get a second slip. and then you can take the test to get the permit. then you have to get your parents to sign it that you have completed 50 hours, hold your permit for at least 6 months, and complete driver's training to take the test to get your license. I spent $180 on driver's training and about $60? for driver's education. You don't need to own a car tho, but you need one to practice and take the test.

haha they never passed that law x]
I'm glad they didn't because then i wouldn't be able to get my permit either xD

so after you get the pink slip from passing driver's ed, do you go take the writing test at DMV or see a driving instructor? O.o because there were 2 different answers.

ohh hey! i'm from sj, too.. haha.

umm, i was definitely clueless about the whole permit thing, but my friend
gave me this site where you just read a bunch of stuff, and take.. i think.. 18 quizzes or so
on what you read, and then a final test.. and if you pass it (it should be
fairly easy since you could take it.. over and over again), then they mail
this pink slip/certificate that you bring to the dmv and.. then do something there.. LOL.
i recieved it a week or two ago, but i'm a little nervous about doing the behind the wheel
test. so, yea. it costs 70 bucks. not too shabby..

here's the link..

You need to get your pink slip which you get after you complete a driver's education course. Then hire a driver instructor to teach you 6 hours. He/she will give you a white slip and will begin teaching you how to drive after you pass your permit test.
