Brain Cells need help

Hello! I've always been told that every time you hit your head against something or hurt your head in any way (may be small or big) you lose brain cells. Is this true? Because I've hit my head way too many times throughout my life both small and big, and I'm wondering if I became any stupider because of it. And does losing brain cells make you any stupider significantly? Examples on how hard you would have to hit your head to lose brain cells or something haha? Also does your brain regenerate brain cells? It is because my stepmother has been beating my head especially all throughout my life and I never realized till now that I might be getting stupider because of it... haha. I'm just curious to know this so I can avoid getting my head hurt, and if it doesn't really affect my intelligence then I can stop worrying too much
thanks!

no they dont regenerate. thats why you forget things sometimes... (i think)
but i found an article saying it might regenerate, but under circumstances.. here you go:

and i dont think simple hits on the head would actually...damage it o.O

?
where did you learn that hitting your head kills brain cells?

getting hit on the head has nothing to do with your lack of intelligence.

it might be because he is sleeing on a bonkity bed next to a runaway train track so that every hour everything goes bump and he hits his head on the headboard or whatever...
very sad
this is why there sould be more public housing
and yea it kills ur brains cells and makes you stupider BUT
brain cells are pretty smart so 2 brain cells can do the work of 50, if you train the 2 hard enough.
GOOD LUCK !

The number of neurons does not matter as much as the number of synaptic connections between those neurons AND the glial cells that support those neurons (when determining intelligence). And no, the reason why you forget things is NOT because you killed off those brain cells (although in rare cases, that CAN happen), but those synaptic connections that trigger the memory weakened through lack of use. Essentially, the better you remember something, the stronger the synaptic connections.
Even if you banged your head a few times, if you're fine now, I highly doubt that you've gotten any dumber. The average human has about 100 billion neurons. You're going to need a lot of head banging to kill off even 1% of your brain's neurons.

Yea i wondered about that too. I heard that there are like zillons of brain cells in your head, and when you hit your head or something the ones closest to impact are damaged or get killed. But there are so many in your brain that those few that die don't really affect your intelligence.
