i'm deciding which dell laptop to get for my next computer.
i want a more powerful system that can support the most recent pc games (crysis, gta4 when it comes out)
(i am NOT planning on getting a desktop computer)

the studio laptop comes with 256mb ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400
the XPS laptop comes with 256mb Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT
is this a really big difference?
besides the graphic card, what makes the XPS a better computer (hardware-wise)?

M1530 owner here.

The 8600M GT is faster and has better drivers for it. (laptopvideo2go.com)

The XPS line also comes with extra accesories with the laptop. Dell gives you an XPS branded sleeve, Creative earbuds (Sound quality with them are very good), XPS micro fiber cloth, Dell remote, and a leather XPS branded CD binder to keep you restore CDs, manual books, and cloth in.

There isn't much difference between the two lines of laptops hardware wise. With the XPS line though, you do get the name and expedited customer service. What Dell is attempting to do is make the spec/price of the Studio line match the XPS, so later on down the road when a refresh of the current XPS line comes out there will be better options available like a 9000M series hybrid video card for example, the newer Intel chip Montevina coming out, and standard backlit keyboard (Something the Studio line has standard already), and probably a multi touch trackpad like the macbooks.

Specs of my M1530 are as listed-

C2D T9300
4GB DDR2
200GB 7200RPM
256MB GDDR3 8600M GT
+WSXGA (1680x1050) Resolution
Bluetooth EDR 2.0
Intel Wireless N

I bought this back in late March, for ~ $1700 I got a $800 savings because I basically maxed out everything and this is with a 3 year accidental warranty + 3 years of LoJack.

It's a great laptop. If you had any other questions about the laptop message me or something.

^ thanks for the info.
seems like XPS just comes with extra accessories (which i don't really need) and a "slightly" better video card.
if the video card on the studio laptop can support most recent games, i'll go for it as my next laptop.

I have an XPS as well the M1330. While I do have the Nvidia video card I didn't plan on using it for gaming. Nevertheless I am still happy with the purchase, as well as all of the accessories I add on. They have turned out to suit my use and lifestyle rather well. However the Bluetooth is next to useless . . . I had intended on using it to connect to my printer however the laptop cannot be any farther than 2 - 3 ft away from the printer >_>
