Is anyone actually thinking about getting it July 11th?
If so where are you going to get it, as in are you going to the apple store early in the morning and wait in line or etc.?
Oh and I heard AT&T is only allowing the iphone to be activated in stores, and there will be a penalty if the iphone is not activated within a month of buying it.
Correct me if i'm wrong.
So my question is does it mean the new phone can't be jail breaked?

EDIT: wait. now i'm confused. So many GB will the new phone have? and 3G means it will have the 3G service...? Can someone explain to me?

Sprint and Verizon are both carrying touch screen phones this year, so I doubt there will be much fanfare for this phone, considering also they are offering them at a cheaper price. It's also not much different from last year's phone except of course the 3G features.

I've ultimately decided not to get the new iPhone, mainly because it would be tacked on with a data plan (which i don't want to pay for, since i'm not a frequent data user). I ended up getting a Palm Centro, which is supposed to arrive tomorrow in the mail... .

I personally am not going to waste the effort on getting one of these until the hackers of america can do a successful unlock and activation of it. Plus my 8gb iphone is still running strong without the need for all those features. Who really needs it? Besides gps.

it's just basically much faster internet BUT REQUIRES the data plan. It's really not worth the price IMO.

2. Yes it will have the 3G service which everyone is pining for (3G= faster internet). That's another reason why it's with ATT because they actually have a long time working 3G network out unlike T-mobile.

Basically the iPhone 3G is just an improved iPhone with faster internet and some software enhancements.

No. Just no lol. There is a difference between 3G and 3GB. If it was 3gb more than the phones would have 11gb and 19gb and obviously that's not the case. 3G is another network that can handle fast data exchanges thus equaling faster internet, video calling, etc. The US is really late in this feature but most European/Asian countries have it. The terms 'tri-band' and 'quad-band' refers to the 2G network or GSM which is mostly for voice calls in general but also has internet as well. I hope this clears things up for you. XD

Let me add even more information.

1. Undoubtably the various hacker groups will jailbreak the new iPhone regardless of a SIM-less version. Because it's 2-3 times more expensive for the SIM-less version, you can count on them jailbreaking the $199 version.

2. 3G stands for "3rd Generation" it's the third mobile network generation which allow for much much greater network speeds in voice and data. Something like 15Mbit/s down, and 6Mbit/s up.
3. The new 3G iPhone is much more than "just some software enhancements". It is a major improvement over the old model. The new 3G has full enterprise level support with Exchange. There's the Mobile ME service that allows seamless (wireless) syncing. The iPhone SDK is available and they've opened it up to 3rd party apps. Etc. Really folks you need to read the Apple.com website where they tell you all this.

trust me that not that exp., in canada its going to be $750 gor the 8gb w/o a plan D=
plus b/c rogers is our only provider for iphone right now the plans are really crappy and there's no unlimited data plans.heres an example of their cheapest plan;
for $60 you get:
150 minutes
unlimited evening/weekends starting at 9pm and ending at 7am
400mb data
75 text msgs
35 cents for each extra minute, 15cents for each extra txt msg
and 50cents for every extra MB used.
NOW THATS WHAT I CALL A RIPOFF
i got my brother to calculate the data plan and he said that like going to 13 sites a day, not counting browsing the site, so just the front page. lets say you decide to watch youtube videos...4-5 of them (about 3-5mins each) will take up your whole 400mb monthly allowance D=

You can keep your plan but you have to add 30 dollars a month for the internet because you can't turn it off.
I think you can get it for 200 if you upgrade you contract but I am not sure.
Since our two year contact already ended but when you upgrade your contact, you have to pay 18 dollars.

No, you have to pay for the data because you're always "on-line" (if you turn of 3G, you're still on EDGE, another data service).

And the iPhones that are being sold on eBay are probably unlocked, which means it can be used with a network other than AT&T (you can just buy a locked iPhone since you're on AT&T)

And if you buy it without upgrading your plan (before your contract ends), it's $399.
