So, I received this new cookbook called the food you crave and its written by a nutritionist named Ellie Krieger. She got her degree in nutrition in Cornell and her masters in Columbia. She also has a Food network show called Healthy Appetite with Ellie Krieger. Basically, her idea of food is split into three categories: Usually, sometimes, and rarely. It's pretty obvious which foods fit into which categories. All of the recipes in this cookbook are either her own original recipes or modified recipes of traditional foods that are very high in fat, calories, etc etc etc. (Ex: Mac and cheese & egg cream) I also really like that theres nutrition information for every recipe so you know exactly how much of what you're putting into your body.

Go to amazon.com and type the title in.. there should be a sneak peak feature so you can see what she writes as an introduction in the book - i really like her approach to health food and the fact that she does NOT guarantee that you will lose X amount of pounds in X amount of time.

Now.. it's 12 am here and im sitting here reading this book lol, and I obviously cant cook anything let alone eat anything but.. just..because i have to taste SOMETHING from this book, i whipped up the Egg cream in 3 minutes biggrin.gif From what the book says, the original recipe is very indulgent - even from the name! I'm guessing it has ice cream, lots of chocolate, and all that good stuff haha.. BUt then again, I've never had one so I can't say how good it is.

The recipe for her version, which is actually VERY good - it satisfies the sweet tooth and keep in mind this is in the dessert category so this is just a occasional treat not something you can drink everyday and lose 10 pounds or something.

For one 16oz serving:

1 T unsweetened Cocoa powder
2.5T sugar
1T boiling water
.5 c very cold nonfat milk
1.5 c seltzer water (NOT club soda. Club soda has sodium in it.. I didnt have seltzer when i made this like 5 mins ago so i just used club soda. it tastes very good but ill use seltzer water next time)
1 pretzel rod to stir (didnt bother with this.. just used a chopstick haha)

nutrition facts:
230 cal
2g fat
6.5g protein
50g carb
1g fiber
7.5mg cholest
190mg sod (more since i used club soda)

In a small cup, mix the cocoa and sugar. Add the hot water and mix to create a paste. Put milk in a tall fountain glass, add the seltzer slowly and stir gently. Gently drizzle the chocolate into the drink and stir being careful not to distrub the foam at the top. The drin should be two toned - chocolate brown on the bottom, lighter choco-brown in the middle and white foam on the top. I just mixed everything lol.. i didnt care about looks this time tongue.gif

Try it guys and tell me what you think. Hopefully some of you guys will be able to join me biggrin.gif
Ill try to update with things like taste, ease, maybe a few pics here and there, and maybe weight changes? :]
